  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

God gave us every seed bearing herb for food, eating it pot gets you higher than smoking it but you have to eat more. This is in Genesis the first page of the bible. What do you think about legalization? It could help us lower taxes and it's obviously not a sin unless you smoke it which is harming your temple, nowhere in the bible does it say it's a sin to slow your body down.

but see it's the same as getting drunk.. it's blurring your perception, it's altering your reality. It changes you, it changes the way you act, the way you feel, and the way you think.

There is something wrong with that. There are some plants that are poison if eaten. Obviously we shouldn't eat them. It's the same here, I feel. Also you'll get fat!

There are enough verses about not being drunk in the bible and it applies to this.

I used to be a pot head.. blunt-a-day man.. let me tell you personally for me it was sin. I felt conviction and I felt God calling me out of it. I'm sure God doesn't want you getting high. It's not his will. You may start out slow but it gets worse.. you want more, you want to get higher, you want the good stuff.. it is indeed a gateway thing, it wasn't for me, but I can see how it could have been if not for God. Seek his will for your life, get into his word. Pray about it man! Believe me it's not what he wants for you, and he wants great things for you. Don't let "a good time" deny you a life in Christ you can't imagine.

was the seed bearing plants God gave us to eat before or after Adam and Eve sinned against Him? (it was before from my bible reading)

after their sin, this world has changed and been corrupted. I don't believe God's word about every seed bearing plant for us to eat is the same as before sin came. Now we have to be more careful because this world is corrupted, including plants and animals have been corrupted. The future says lions will lie down with sheep, boys can sit with lions without fear also. The world will change again and be pure and without corruption, after sin and death and the devil are more done away with.

it all depends the reason for what your using it for, some people use it for religious purposes such as Rastafarians, my favorite religion and what'd I'd convert to if it was legal, it's just Rastas aren't accepted legally in United States. Why can't I smoke pot to mediitate on God for peace love and fellowship with other Rastas. Sounds like heaven to me.

the bible talks about being sober.

the health hazards outweigh any benefit, and I don't think God will reveal too much to you while your stoned. Your brain doesn't really do much thinking. I've been stoned a lot, and looking back, it didn't help me think at all, it just took up my time and let me feel numb.

Jesus calls us to be servants, you can meditate with God and learn a lot more while you are helping other people.

Instead of debating whether or not pot should be legal, I'd rather ask you these questions. Why are you a Christian? How did you become a Christian? I see that little black and white cross that identifies you as a Non-denom Christian. To get that icon and access to this forum, you had to affirm a creed, I believe the Nicene Creed. By doing that you have said that you believe those statements in the creed to be true. That's why I'm confused by a statement like this one here:

"some people use it for religious purposes such as Rastafarians, my favorite religion and what'd I'd convert to if it was legal, it's just Rastas aren't accepted legally in United States."

A Christian could never write that statement. A seeker on the other hand, someone who's looking for the truth, feeling out the various religions, seeing what's true and what isn't, could write that statement. So which one are you?

"Why can't I smoke pot to mediitate on God for peace love and fellowship with other Rastas."

You could, but you might be meditating on a god of your own creation. God is also righteous and just. As a Christian we are to obey the laws of this land, by buying Marijuana you are breaking the law, this is displeasing to God. Not to mention the potential danger you are to others, if you operate a car while under the influence of pot.

Now, if we put the legality issue aside, there should be no reason you can't smoke and meditate with other Rastas. Except, that you have this strange feeling inside of you that what you're doing is wrong. That's called your conscience and everybody has one. It's something God gave each one of us so we could instinctively know when we're doing His will and when we're not.

You've already said that you want to be Rastafarian, so your heart and mind are not focused on God. You don't need to get high to meditate on God or anything else. I do it all the time without drugs. In fact the religions that practice meditation, do so without chemical assistance. Why? Because unaltered meditation is the bees knees dude. Besides, whatever you experience while meditating will never be real to you if you're stoned. You'll always be wondering "was that God or was that the pot?"

most things in this world that God has made has been perverted and ends up becoming a sinful act, example drinking is not a sin but drunkenness is

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

The word witchcraft in the original language
of the bible is the greek word “pharmakeia”

which means drugs,

Thayer Definition:
1) the use or the administering of drugs
2) poisoning

so basically improper use of drugs is sin.

it just slows your reflexes down I think that's why I'm a better driver stoned.
Whoa dude, you don't become a better driver by having slow reflexes.

I am aware of how pot tends to make some people drive slower and more cautiously, though, I've smoked quite a bit of it in my time.

You're seventeen, and IMO you shouldn't even have a driver's license (here you must be 18 to drive). :)
Anyway, there's so much happening in and with your mind already when you're 17. Don't do like me and miss out on it because you like to get high. I wish I'd started getting high now instead (if I was to do it in the first place). You have plenty of time. Realize that you're not mature enough to be experimenting with drugs. And at the same time, be man enough to take care and responsibility for your life.

True, it seems harmless, and there are lots of people who use marijuana responsibly. However, you don't see too much of the shadow side. I do, because I work in a mental ward. There are so many cannabis psychosis there that you wouldn't believe. You just don't see them, because they're too screwed up and paranoid to smoke joints for fun with you.

Why can't I smoke pot to mediitate on God for peace love and fellowship with other Rastas. Sounds like heaven to me.
You can, but pot itself, like meetings or prayer groups, don't actually bring you closer to God. God brings you closer to God.

Do what you do, and don't condemn yourself for it, because condemnation never helped anyone, and anyway there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Just be sure to be responsible and careful not to fool yourself.

Do NOT drive stoned. You think you're a better driver, but trust me, you're not. You getting in a wreck while stoned only hurts the cause of legalization. Also, you're 17. Trust me again, you are not a good driver sober. When you're 25, you'll agree.

The best argument against weed is that it turns kids into losers. Don't be a case study for the prohibition crowd. Get good grades, don't drive high, don't be a loser. If your grades start slipping or something, quit smoking, get your act together and then try again later if you must.

Also, don't listen to anything Metallica did after ...And Justice For All.

Many people don't use it to get high. It actually has valuableand valid medical use for less money and less side effects than man made meds.

As I said, there isn't anything wrong with it, or any other thing, it's how you use it that is the issue.

Wait one second, think about it, weed is smoked in secret and what did adam and eve do when they sinned, hid just like people do when they smoke it and sell it. Weed is a herbal plant , but has been converted into pleasure versus helping people. Just like Halloween was converted from a holy day to a day for witches and gobblins. So please understand that this plant has been converted into something negative that could have been used for something positive in medicine.

Marijuana was legal for thousands of years. It has only been a "problem" for the last 70 years or so when it was illegalized. And it was only illegalized in the US as a compromise when prohibition ended to make the religious right feel better.

No, some people use it in a wrong manner....while many people don't.

It still is used for something positive in medicine you just have to jump through hoops and a bunch of garbage because of the current unethical and uncontitutional federal laws and the illogical stigma in society created by well-meaning but sorely misguided propaganda.

Which is the Christlike response....to allow someone to have safe and responsible access to marijuana for medical reasons or to force them to use more dangerous synthetic meds?

OK, I'll bite the bullet. I suffer from a severe form of arthritis that is causing my si joints and spine to fuse. Symptoms are massive muscle spams in my entire back and inflammation of every major joint and most minor joints in my body. It is extremely painful and fatigue is a major issue. This is why I cannot work a traditional job.

The meds I take:
Celerex...pill taken 2 times a day...high risk of heart issues (not a biggie as my disease may do that anyways)...cost $40 a month after insurance (over $100 without insurance
Enbrel...self-injection 2 times a weekhigh risk of lymphoma...cost $70 for 3 months after insurance ($1800 a month without insurance)
both....kidney and liver issues..blood work done every 6 months

other...when needed any one of the assorted narcotics available to ease the pain and help me sleep...dosage and cost varies

I do live in an MM state, but choose to not use it (altho I have in the past) even tho it is the only thing that totally relaxes my muscles, whipes out the inflamation and lets me sleep a solid night (far better than the 1-1 1/2 hours I get now at a time)...dosage..2 drags on a joint at bedtime...cost..varies but cheaper than traditional meds and I bear the cost not tax payers and not insurance companies and participants....dangers? offending someone (stumbling block)..thus only done at bedtime..cancer? It's been proven (can't remember where I read it) to treat lymphoma and other cancers

Oh how I wish for an actually compassionate approach to this issue. I pray noone else has to be faced with the issue of deciding between good and fair medical treatment and obeying these laws.
