  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's safe to say that recreational, mind-altering substances are a distraction from God. I would even go as far as to say that modern alcoholic drinks are not a good idea either.
While I respect that you can take your convictions and apply them so evenly ...

How would you define "mind-altering"? Technically, any food we eat creates some sort of chemical alteration in the brain. Tryptophan makes us sleepy; caffiene stimulates us; chocolate makes us feel good; while antihisimine makes us groggy. Where is the line between acceptable and unacceptable "mind-altering"?

biblical anointing oils is cannabis? I have run across this translation before reading the Hebrew Old Testament at non-marrijuana websites

I would post a link but its against forum rules, from a christian-weed website.

quote......

Kaneh bosm = cannabis hemp.

In my opinion, we now have THE definitive translation for kaneh bosm in the recipe of the holy anointing oil of Moses in Exodus 30:23.

Eliezer Ben-Yehuda (1859-1922) is credited almost single-handedly with reviving the Hebrew language in the last century, and with being THE highest authority on virtually all matters of translation, etc. He even started the Academy of the Hebrew Language which still exists today and has "binding authority" on the Israeli government in matters of the Hebrew language.

In the 1964 Ben-Yehuda Hebrew-English / English-Hebrew dictionary it says that kaneh bosm is cannabis hemp, page 140.

If Ben-Yehuda's dictionary says kaneh bosm is cannabis hemp, then we have the final authority on the Hebrew language confirming for us and for all of humankind, the blessing of cannabis spirituality in written history.

Muslims, Hebrews and Christians all regard the first five books of the Bible with respect. The part that the holy anointing oil played in the ancient times is enormous, especially considering that the very word, 'Christ' means literally, 'anointed'. The holy anointing oil of Moses included cannabis and was an 'active' sacrament imparting a true religious experience on the receiver. Now we know, 2 - 4, 000 years later.

Is modern alcohol somehow different than ancient alcohol?

The wedding guests at Cana had already "drunk freely" of their entire supply of wine. So Jesus made them 120-180 gallons more! (of the good stuff no less!).
Why did Jesus want them to have even more wine?

As for Marijuana, it is a plant- and a pretty harmless one at that. Alcohol is much more dangerous.

A couple problems, I see.
Would you like me to fly you around the world in a Boeing 747 while I suck down a few hits from my bong?
Would you like me to care for your aging grandmother, who requires medication to live, after I finish my rasta joint?
Would you like me to drive your daughter around Manhatten after a sneek a hit from my concealed pinch hitter?
Would you like me to take care of your 2 month old daughter while a eat some pot brownies.
Does any of these scenarios honor God ??

PEOPLE,
WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE , not the pot resin cause you ain't got enough money for a bag this week.

No, and I wouldn't let you fly a boeing 747 after a few shots of whiskey, either. That's why there are laws against it.
Would you like me to care for your aging grandmother, who requires medication to live, after I finish my rasta joint?
No, and I wouldn't let you care for her after a six-pack of Heinekan. That's why I'd fire you.
Would you like me to drive your daughter around Manhatten after a sneek a hit from my concealed pinch hitter?
Nope, nor after you sneak a sip from your little metal flask. That's why drunk driving is against the law, too.
Would you like me to take care of your 2 month old daughter while a eat some pot brownies.
Mmmm ... pot brownies ... [do I really neeed to repeat myself again?]

PEOPLE,
WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE , not the pot resin cause you ain't got enough money for a bag this week.
See, your problem here is that you have a caricatured view of marijuana and its effects. It's irresponsible teens and potheads and junkies, right? That's the only kind of person who'd enjoy a good joint, right?

UMP, WAKE UP AND SMELL THE POT SMOKE, not the bull-pucky you've been shoveled by the moral majority. Why can't marijuana be legalized and legislated exactly like alcohol?!? Toking while flying a B747? Illegal. Toking while driving? Illegal. Take a look at a country where recreational marijuana is legalized and regulated, and prove to me that your caricature slippery slope of pot use is accurate. Otherwise, get a little educated.

i also wouldn´t like you to fly me around in a boeing 747 while you are having a warm meal.
so, yes, we agree: there are situations, in which smoking mj can be harmful.
writing a letter while riding a bike is also not the best idea, but that is not an argument against writing a letter.

Sir,
I've done more hit's on a bong than can be grown on 5 acres in Jamaica during a nice long spring and rainy summer. By the grace of God, I no longer smoke. Alcohol is just as bad. Just because a government condones one and condemns the other is a meaningless argument.
I believe that being drunk or stoned is NOT God honoring.
Get a grip.

probably not, I aslo wouldnt want you to pray with your eyes closed while flying a 747 either.

Would you like me to care for your aging grandmother, who requires medication to live, after I finish my rasta joint?

yes please,
weed makes you feel more compassion towards your fellow human being, exspecially the ones who are suffering. Rasta's are very serious spiritual people who have alot of compassion towards suffering people.
all you got to do is Google " rastfarian charities"

Would you like me to drive your daughter around Manhatten after a sneek a hit from my concealed pinch hitter?

yes and no,
been there, done that hundreds of times. I drove under the speed limit and stopped at every stop light, and triple checked every time for oncoming traffic.

Would you like me to take care of your 2 month old daughter while a eat some pot brownies.

yes
been there, done that a hundred times, weed makes you more patient and kind.

weed is cheaper than cigarettes, you can smoke dirtweed all day long for about $5 , depending upon your supplier.

If you think marijuana isn't "God-honoring," then say so, but don't post slippery-slope scenarioes about the bad things people might do while smoking pot if they're irrelevant to your position.

I felt that I made that PEFECTLY clear in my FIRST reply to the OP.
If not, I'll state it more clearly.
I believe that being drunk or stoned is NOT God honoring.

Legalizing marijuana will not cause people to fly, drive, or work stoned.

You introduced sloppy charicatures of irresponsibility into the debate, and claimed they were the "icing" on your argument. Don't try to disown them now; either stand up for them, or admit that they are fallicious.

Ugg !
Here was Airpo's reply.
"Legalizing marijuana will not cause people to fly, drive, or work stoned."

In responce,
My original introduction of the stoned airplane pilot, sitter, etc. etc. had NOTHING to do with legalization said substance, hense my reply, "what does that have to do with anything"
Like I said before, it was just icing on my belief that marijana is not God honoring.
