  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you mean?

Haven't you heard? Global Warming is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese and the U.N. is going to use it to destroy capitalism. Clearly these measurements were taken in a dry cleaners or perhaps a pizzaria kitchen and thus are fake. It was really 49° degrees in Mangum, not 99°.

Actually, it is quite warm in the Central Plateau of the United States. Considering this is mid-winter (or close enough) the temperature was above 70 degrees today and for a few days prior. We're expecting more unseasonal temperatures next week.

Whether this a trend or just an aberration is quite unsettled.

Aside from that, the Earth has been warming since the coldest time of the last Ice Age. But we (humanity on Earth) had a bit of a break during a period for about 550 years popularly called the "Little Ice Age". (1300-1850, more or less.) It wasn't a 'real' ice age, but it was colder than usual.

The idea of 'global warming' now altered to be 'climate change' is normally considered as 'business as usual' by most people of any political party. The hoax is the warming or change is caused by human, especially U. S. activity and the U. S. has to drop all industry and all the people live in miserable conditions to save the Earth.

Those who support the idea of 'climate change' never understand - or pretend they don't understand - what the sensible people say. They then claim all of us who do not attribute climatic change to human activity are denying all that is going on.

That's not news to most of us.

Aside from that, the Earth has been warming since the coldest time of the last Ice Age.

At no point in recent history, and when there has been no reason for us to be warming, have we warmed as much and as quickly as we have over the last 50 years. Sorry, but the "tide comes in, tide goes out" argument is a non starter.

The idea of 'global warming' now altered to be 'climate change'

Denier mythology. The terms have been used interchangeably since the 70s.

The hoax is the warming or change is caused by human,

That's not a hoax. Atmospheric CO2 has gone up 80ppm over the last 70 years and the vast majority of that is from human activity.

Those who support the idea of 'climate change' never understand - or pretend they don't understand - what the sensible people say. They then claim all of us who do not attribute climatic change to human activity are denying all that is going on.

What "sensible" people? The deniers who spread urban legends and PRATTs on the Internet? Those "sensible" people?

I am no expert on climate change or global warming. I have read enough to know, climate has always changed over the history of earth and it is not odd by any means, to have records broken temperature wise. Some say global warming has caused excessive amounts of catastrophic storms, but when you look at the data, hurricanes and tornados have actually been a downtrend for decades. The earth's surface temperature has not risen for the last 19 years. Co2 levels are up, but they have been higher in the past and some scientists believe this is actually a good thing for human life, vs a bad thing.

I really need to read more on this topic, but the overreaction on weather patterns, can be completely unrelated, to any global warming.

Correct and I salute you for it.

Actually, this has been 'predicted' by theorists in the field, oddly enough, all agreeing with the "human caused" concept of warming. But as you mention following, it has not be realized.

Also correct. I remember in the 1960s there were a number of hurricanes affecting the Caribbean area and the Southeast coastal areas of the United States. Not the intensity only, but the number of storms were greater.

One notes all plant life 'use' CO2 in their life cycle. So lowering CO2 levels are bad for plants - including food crops for both humans and 'food animals'. Ultimately bad for all living things.

Reading more is always indicated; but I'll bet you'll only become more convinced of what you now understand. The overreaction to weather patterns is based on hype and misinformation. Certainly about human caused global warming or climate change.

What do you mean?

It got that warm for a day a few weeks earlier than usual, alie---I mean climate change.

FYI:

The National Weather Service says the high in Mangum on Saturday reached 99 degrees to tie a record set Feb. 24, 1918, in Arapaho as the highest February temperature ever in Oklahoma.

Record-tying high temperature for February in Oklahoma

See? Whites killing all those buffalo was a good thing! Their farts were obviously endangering the planet.

However, it was two degrees cooler in Slapaho.
