'Sighing' over the abominations is the way that people are protected (God is marking those who sigh over the abominations, while slaughtering the rest), not through a fake 'whisked away' rapture that Satan will exploit to evil purposes. The people who were protected are then gathered. This is Matthew 24:29-31

The people who sigh over the abomination are in 'Judea' (being sealed with the mark in Ezekiel 9) (Matthew 24:15-16) and have to flee. In Revelation terms, these people are being sealed at Revelation 7: the 144,000 & the great multitude who are 'coming out of the great tribulation'.

'Judea' means literal Jerusalem & spiritual Jerusalem which means Christians.

Jerualem has a literal and spiritual meaning. See Lamentations 1

How lonely sits the city that was full of people!
How like a widow has she become,
she who was great among the nations!
She who was a princess among the provinces
has become a slave.
2 She weeps bitterly in the night, with tears on her cheeks;

When the abomination (Ezekiel 9) occurs (starting the apostasy & the day of the Lord's wrath at the 6th Seal), Judea has to flee (the slaughter of Ezek 9). These people who flee are the exiles of Zech 14. This occurs at the beginning, at the 6th Seal. At the end, at the 7th Trumpet, Jesus comes to Jerusalem with the exiles from the beginning to take over literal Jerusalem.

Behold, a day is coming for the Lord, when the spoil taken from you will be divided in your midst. 2 For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be taken and the houses plundered and the women raped. Half of the city shall go out into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

At verse 7, 'foreigners' can be translated as 'aliens'. So, yes, the Pope will be for 'aliens' in the sanctuary/ holy place. But this is probably the 1st abomination at the 6th Seal, with the 2nd abomination happening later, at the 7th Trumpet.
