Senior thesis, he was embedded with troops (which included his friend) and this happened in NYC. I haven't read anything about Ahmed Sharif being opposed to the community center, only that he didn't think the attack was related (linky).

As his senior thesis, he embarked on a film project to follow his high school buddy Marine Cpl. Alex Eckner through boot camp in Hawaii.

"I realized there's never been an introspective look into what it's like being an 18-, 19-, 20-year-old soldier," Enright told The Journal News newspaper.

He was embedded with Marines on the front lines in Afghanistan in April and May.

A neighbor and longtime friend, who identified himself only as Jesse, said Enright was different when he returned.​

CNN refused to report yesterday he worked for a left wing group as a film maker. This story will die out now. Not useful.

Cute though isn't it how one person with an obvious alcohol problem is representative to some on the left of all those who oppose the Ground Zero mosque and its Iman but Muslims shouting Allah Akbar and slamming passenger jets into the World Trade Center were not representative of anything in particular.

Just "isolated extremists" ,I guess, to use a term Barack Hussein Obama used to refer to the other jihadist who tried to blow up a jet over Detroit last Christmas.

If that's true (what, no cite? ), did the film-making group have any anti-Moslem sentiments whatsoever or were they the "why can't we all just get along" types?

There is no indication that he opposed Park51; the victim said he didn't think that had anything to do with it.

Nobody but you has said that the 9/11 attackers were not representative of anything - they have said, repeatedly, that what they represented is directly opposed by what Iman Rauf & the Cordoba Initiative represent (details, details).

Although Enright was apparently motivated by anti-Muslim sentiments, I don't know that he can even be described as "an extremist", more like "a man undergoing a psychotic break", but that's not as sexy. I haven't heard yet that he ever advocated death to all Muslims, even though he tried to slit the throat of this Muslim.

How many Muslims are there in the world? How many have engaged in terrorist attacks?

There ARE isolated extremists. You are talking about minuscule percentages of the population engaging in these kinds of behavior.

More than you probably think - driving a cab in NYC is dangerous, so it is mostly left to immigrants. But most of them are killed in simple robberies, not because of their religion.

Enright - the slasher - has been committed to Bellevue now; that's one of NYC's finest psychiatric hospitals.

I feel for Muslims in America. Whereas there are more Muslims over there than in Britain, they are far more spread out and thus do not have the same safety that British Muslims have from living in proximity with one another in a community. Plus, that only a tiny proportion of Americans- around 2.5 million in a population of 305.5 million- identify as Muslim, means that they are in a very small and thus vulnerable community, whose beliefs are rarely known by the population at large. This contributes to ignorance, and seeing as Muslims are in such a tiny minority, people believe that they can get away with attacking them. Luckily, America is not Saudi Arabia or North Korea, and perpetrators of crimes against minorities are punished. I hope this man is punished to the full extent of the law.
