Why is it wrong?

IMO it is blasphemy. Christ isnt a last name it is a definition or title.
that only the son of god...the saviour of men is entitled to be called.

It's not just that...read the article, he is actually claiming that he is the "real deal".

Hopefully thats taken out of context. I read into this that he feels called, as all of us should, to become Christlike. I do think he's going in he's going in the wrong direction with this. We all need heart change. A name change will not affect this. Come to think of it it probably won't effect much either.

Would you feel better about it if he'd called himself Jesus Christian? I thnk I would.

I don't know, maybe...I just think that it's important to have some respect.

I agree with you. I think his name change is probably a bad idea and I feel Christ is a title not a name. I just hope that Goodun here has his heart in the right place.

Now that's disturbing.

This is equally disturbing. Must absolutely break God's heart.

... Not to mention, there are going to be a lot of awkward moments in New York.

Many people in Mexico are called Jesus. But Christ is a title. It says in the last days many would come saying they were the Christ. Many false prophets would come. His claims should be just dismissed. It is heresy as says the Scriptures. We need to pray for this miguided man. Jesus means 'saviour' just as Joshua also means saviour... now you can work that one out.

I think it's ridiculous that a judge would allow this, especially since the man in question is infact claiming to be Jesus Christ.

I'm trying to figure out the logic here:

"Espinal, who acted as his own lawyer, had the change approved by Manhattan Civil Court Judge Diane Lebedeff, who said she was 'satisfied that this application is neither novel, nor would granting it pose practical problems.'"

Right, because suddenly deciding a year ago that you should change your name to that of the savior of all mankind isn't the least bit novel, nor would granting it EVER cause practical problems......

"The judge said Espinal's 'reasons were primarily those applicable to his own private religious beliefs and he stated no desire to use his proposed name to secure publicity, to proselytize, to fund-raise or advise others that he had been cloaked by the courts or government with a religious authority.'

No, because he assumes his own authority, seeing at he thinks he's the Son of God. You seriously want to tell me that a man who (says) he believes that he is, infact, Jesus Christ, is NOT going to engage in activities that could be seen as getting publicity or proselytizing?

Espinal, who is unemployed and unmarried and has no children, said: 'This was not done for any reason other than I am that person. You're dealing with the real deal."'

I just can't understand how a presumably highly educated individual such as a judge, cannot see how that is clearly a statement of someone who is, at the very least, mentally unbalanced. True, there is not going to be worldwide ramifications because some guy chose to change his name to Jesus Christ, but I still think that judge did an injustice in allowing him to do so.

"I am the person that is the name" or "This was not done for any reason other than I am that person. You're dealing with the real deal"? Sounds like he's claiming Messiahship to me. Apparently he believes he's Jesus' reincarnation...funny thing is he forgot Jesus' rose again, thus making it impossible for his spirit to become another human being. Besides Jesus was so perfect or (from a secular mind view of course) good, according to karma and Hinduism he would've achieved nirvana when he died.
However I think that perhaps changing your name to the hebrew equivalent of oh Peter son of Jesus would be really cool.
