  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

While I'm a great fan of the cinema, I find it extremely hard to find films that are in accordance with my viewing standards.
I was wondering if there is anyone out there who is interested in making (directing, producing, etc.) movies, not necessarily with a slap-em-up-go-to-hell-or-else Christian bent, but with positive Christian moral messages packaged in a clean movie.
I'm also talking about blockbuster-caliber films, not your average run-of-the-mill (not to be degrading of worthy efforts) Christian movies.

Anyone?

It would be difficult to make those types of movies, there woudn't be much viewing audience. Most of ur viewers are teenagers and older crowds looking for blood guts gore language and nudity. The reason Passion was so popular was because it seemed truthful to ppl, and because it had sadly the gruesome death of Jesus, and I think ppl wanted to experience that. Plus because of it's director, ppl were curious. So I agree I think that wold be awesome to have movies like this, it would be very difficut tho, to make money, and get a audience but no hurt in trying.

I do a lot of work in the entertainment industry. First and foremost with my band, I also do screenwriting, production, and acting. Right now, I'm working on a whole series of books, turning them into screenplays, and looking forward to starting production early next year (And no, I can't give any details about it). However, I can pretty much guarantee it won't be to your standards because there is a lot of violence, some sex and nudity, (though I will be trying to tone the sex down from the books), and some bad language.

As for clean movies, they are hard to come by anymore. There just isn't a real big market for them because when you watch a movie, 99% of people wanna see blood, sex, and all those other bad things. There are some exceptions to this such as the new Napoleon Dynamite, which holds a PG rating, which actually make a huge hit. They are very few and far between because it's extremely hard to write a script that doesn't have compermising situations that keep an audience interested. For instance, people may say, "Well, they made one movie that was PG and it was a huge hit. Why can't they make another?" And it's because you would have the same things in each movie and the stories would get boring. People want daring and on edge things.

The other end of it is the production companies. These are the people who front millions of dollars to make a movie. Now, if you were them, would you hand someone a check for $50,000,000 if you wern't sure you would make a profit off it? If you make a screenplay and hand it to them and they don't think they will make a penny from it, it gets tossed in the can.

Now there are companies such as Spartan (who made Extreme Days) who will look at screenplays of the nature you speak, but it's rare that they ever hit the big screen, and if they do, it's usually only in select theaters. They don't have the type of money it takes to really push a film into that mainstream area.

So yah, I hope this was of some use.

You're saying it'd be good if we have more stories that didn't have bloody wars, extreme violence, prostitution, rape etc?

Doesn't that cut out most of the bible?
This is very true. Good point.

Besides, there have been plenty of popular movies that haven't been driven by violent gore, foul language and sex/nudity. Look at the great sports films like Remember the Titans and The Rookie.

There is a market for movies with inspiring, up-lifting plots that still have excitement. Pirates of the Caribbean had next to no swearing, very little nudity (except what was approapriate for the times) and no gore...except maybe with the skelotons.

My point is that there are action/adventure movies that don't use nudity and foul language to propell themselves into the Box Office. The story still matters more than the special effects.

Paycheck is another film with a minimum of language and nudity, but still an action-packed plot with brilliant acting.

This is what I actually want to do in life, is to make movies.
I believe you can make great movies without bad language, and nudity.
And I believe they would be a success, depending on the story.
I'm not against voilence, only what type of attitude it is done in. Is the violence glorified, or justified sort of thing.

There are alot of movies that have been a major success, that weren't rated R. Perhaps more than not.
Even rated R movies, like Scareface have been edited to get a lower rating for TV. And it turned out very well.

All you need is a great story, some money, and a team with passion and knowledge to make a successful movie.

Rock on!!! This is exactly what I'm going to do with my life... own my own production company and make movies!!!

I went to school for it and whatnot, but right now I'm doing weddings to make some extra money. I help friends with school projects all the time, and so far they've all been graded with A's, a a couple of high B's.

Right now I'm currently working on three scripts, with other sketches and music videos in the works as well. I'm hoping to get an actual job within a christian production company somehow, although it's proving to be quite difficult. *sigh*

I agree that there are many movies that have made a hit in the box office and have been very well made, with the absence of all the junk. I also think that because there still isn't that many, it leaves the space wide open for great ideas and much potential.

One point to make... "The Passion" did have graphic violence in it, but that was based on and around Jesus Christ and what He did for creation. See, if there were other very well-done films like that one, where it would acurrately depict events in the Bible and be well-acted and well-done, I would love to go see them! I don't think people are saying that they're trying to cut out the parts of the Bible that talk about that stuff, they're just saying that they don't want to have to be bombarded with the world's view of it. At least that's the way I feel about it. I hope that made sense like it does in my head. :sorry:

Hey Sunstone, what are your ideas? I would really love to hear about them!

This is what the Lord has led me to do with my life. It's great to see that he is gathering together a people who are willing to go into this field!

The Lord has led me through television school and I am involved in an internship program at a church at the moment that involves video. Have written some scripts and stories in my life. I also have friends in my local area who want to get involved in this field as well. I have edited alot of stuff recently. At the moment, Editing and Lighting are probably my strong suits. Learning alot in this thing. I mostly work with FCP but I'm looking to learn the Avid and After Effects for the future.
Gonna start writing some ideas that i've had in the past just to get the skills up to shape. I'll also start small with maybe a 4 minute short and go from their directing-wise. Directing is what I really wnat to do so I have to work at that the most.
