  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I live in eastern Pennsylvania. I am a die-hard Phillies fan. At this writing, they are 22-11, even though they have had an inordinate amount of injuries. Of course, this is due to the tremendous starting pitching staff that they have been able to assemble.

Who do you root for?

Are you interested in having a 5-month baseball conversation?

As a fan of a National League team from the East, I have to be honest and say that I don't know much about the Angels. I guess the best place to start is by asking "What can you tell me about them?" Why did you become an Angels fan? Isn't there a team closer to home - the Astros, Rangers, or whoever.
The expectations for the Phillies are SO high, that every loss drives fans into a frenzy. With a rotation of Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt, Cole Hamels, and Joe Blanton, they are expected to win every game.
If they would ever get some hitting and less injuries, they just might - even though they already have one of the best records in all of baseball.

I live in Seattle and I root for the home team. It's like taking a vow of humility. We have a good starting rotation, including last year's Cy Young winner, Felix Hernandez, but he gets no run support, and we sure could use a closer as our regular guy's out for--at the very least--another month.

I caught the end of the Phillies/Braves game today--so tough break for the Phillies.

I'm also a huge fan of any team playing the Yankees :D

Speculative - The Phillies are on their 3rd closer - and it is ONLY the middle of May. Brad Lidge is supposed to be their closer but he is still on the DL.
The Phillies lineup, without Chase Utley (DL) and Jason Werth (in D.C) is lacking - to say the least.
The Phils play the Rangers on Wednesday, what can you tell me about them?

Well they're pretty solid, but maybe not as good as last year. Plus they have a couple of their best hitters out and won't get to use the DH in Philly, so I think things look good for the Phillies, but the Rangers are still a good team and not to be overlooked, IMO.

I am from New York and unfortunately I like the worse of the two. I am a Mets fan and thus am obliged to hate the Phillies lol. They are solid this year, but I have a feeling they will not be celebrating the World Series this year. Watch out for those Brewers this year, especially if they make a big trade!!! That lineup is stacked and hasn't even reached it's potential!!!

IrishMiddie22 - Welcome to the site.
So far, in this series, the Phils have taken the first 2 games. Thank Goodness - because the Mets aren'tt very good this year - or since '07 after they had their late season collapse.
Maybe the Brewers will be able to get some of the Mets players, when the Mets have their fire sale.

Is it sad that I root for whatever team is closest to where I live? Just because I can see them on TV daily. I was a Nationals fan, now I'm a Pirates fan.

On the plus side, all they have to do is reach .500 and the season is a success!
