The dog poop analogy is specious. Also, does anyone object to the violence in MTG? These people are fools, all games have a little violence in them. In Super Mario Brothers you butt bounce on demons. Whoa, can't play that. If you are afraid of evil influences just about every game, cd, and literary work must be banned. It's much too ascetic. It's like the Pharisees who had a millions thingspeople couldn't use. Taste not, touch not, etc.

Of course, this analogy is conditional upon argumentation. There are ways to avoid evil associations.

1. The player acknowledges that the game may directly correlate with the real western world and Christianity, and chooses not to use the "demon" cards.

I just got done talking about Magic: the Gathering in the Game forum. Here's the short summary, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh and the likes are primarily just games. As one of the earlier posts said, it cards with pictures and rules. That about sums it up. The violence in the game is at such a low level compared to a lot of other games that I allow my 9 year old son to play Yu-Gi-Oh with me.

Another person mentioned the addiction factor. Yes, it can be addicting. That is a problem. Then the game can become your idol and draw you away from God. But, anything can really do that, a car, a house, fishing, or a garden. Last I checked, these things are acceptable to most Christians, but don't let them take over your life.

God and Jesus must be priority one.

Yes...collectable card games: I worry less about the cards and more about the feelings of envy and greed that they MAY generate in someone who tries to get every single one of a particular game.

Hey this is my first post. I was searching the web to read what people thought about MTG the card game. I found a link to this web site and only god can be responsible for that. My bible study group had been haveing this same discussion.

To determine if the game is wrong merely look at Redemption. In Redmption I use "evil" Villians straight out of the bible to destroy godly heros, and not only that I am holding lost souls captive. Now I realize its a game, I am 21 years old. I also play MTG and love using White, my favorite card has always been sera angel. If you feel it is wrong dont play it, if it is okay with you and you prayedabout it play but dont force your ideas on others, it seems to me with all the argueing it is not a very good witness for a nonchristian to come across the way I did. Jesus Loves us so leave it at that, Nice to meet you all hows it going?

This is a third party look into the game for you all.
I have been a youth leader and a youth bible study teacher.
For those that argue that there are NO simillarities with magic the gathering card game and the occult, you would be wrong.
on the flip side those of you who say that since it doesn't bring you closer to the lord then you shouldn't do it, that would be palin and simple hipocrisy.
Now for argument one. You tap into "mana" the natural enegies of the world to draw power with which to porform any "spell" (and bty yes, i too am a player of this game) from your hand. these things simply put have a direct opposition to the lord and most concepts of cristianity.
Now for position 2. To say that due to the things above it's a bad idea because it has no link to the lord, then put down most of your sports equipment, dont go to movies, done watch t.v., and yes the news paper and most books have now just been corrupted as well. None of those for 90% of the time have anything to do with cristianity at all.
My final word, and the word I gave to my youth group.
Remember that it is a game, that no part of it should be taken into your personal feelings for your lord and your faith. enjoy the game only as you would a good football or soccer game. If all else fails, pray on it, just you and the lord and ask him what he wills you to do. if deep down you feel that you shouldn't play the game then don't, it's a sure fire sign that you would be one of the people who would let come between you and your faith. contrawise, if you feel confident in your faith then have fun, I know i do every time i pull out my deck. later all

And it's a game I enjoy very much. And since I'm not a Christian, I don't have to spend the better parts of my days worrying about "un-Christian influences". Sheesh, it's really not that big a deal.

A guy I know had a huge collection, then turned fundamentalist, then burned his entire collection!

btw, I love using Blue. There's just something about about the card-drawing and counterspelling abilities that feels so right!

I myself, have mixed feelings about this game.

I somtimes will refuse to use a card, if I dont agree with it. Lord Of The Pit is a perfect example of that. That is one of the only cards that i have had a problem with, but we need to be carfull.

I Think this is a great game, and I really enjoy to play it. but i will be carfull.

I love MTG. Its an excellent exercise in mental strategy, bolsters math skills, and as other positive effects (like fun). I have never come across a play who truly believes they are summoning creatures. As far as some of the cards, no color is inherenty evil in the eyes of the game. Even black. Black may be ambitious, and there may be evil things that associated with black, but the same can be said for every color. White represents order, but it also represents the dark side of order: forcing conformity to achieve a goal. Blue also has control aspects. Green has "natural" evil in the form of natures distructive elements. Red is also destructive. But all of the colors have positive aspects as well. I think it should pose no problem theologically, as long as you keep it in context. oh and by the way, me and my friends came up with a Jesus card just for fun.

I play the game quite frequently. I enjoy it, I play it online through various programs, school, and weekly tournaments. I believe the game to be simply that; a game. The majority of those who play Magic are not Christian, and I believe that a Christian player would be in a good position to enlighten. I believe the game does bring me closer to God. It really hurts me when I hear that the game is evil and that I am for playing it. Oh, and btw, Midnight Star, you could have made Jesus a better card. There is just something wrong with being able to kill Jesus with Shock. You should have at least given him: "[this] can't be the target of spells or abilities."

I dunno, what if the cast Obliterate, or Wing Shards, or even Chainer's Edict? Maybe give him "[this] is unaffected by spells, abilities, and damage" That should fix that problem

creatures with protection from all colours are compleatly untouchable by that colour. obliterate wouldn't do anything, wing shards would, if you attacked with it...but why would you do that?

chainers edicit would....but even they way that you said it, it would, since its not an ability, that directly targets that card. it targets you, then you are forced to sacrifice.

how about. "when this card comes into play, you win the game" ....even though it would be banned in all formats, its still a pretty interesting thing to have.

(i dont want to make it, "when this creature is played" because...thats just too cheap... ) although its pretty much unplayable in the only set it wouldn't get banned in. (type 2.)

guys, i have been playing Magic for a long time now. and IN MY OPINION, the game of Magic is just it, a game. there is nothing wrong in playing it unless it interferes with you spiritually (can't go to church bcos too addiccted to Magic, etc).
in fact, i always like to imagine myself as some sort of powerful sorcerer trying to blow up the world, destroy creatures, summon them and send lightning bolts from my fingers. it makes me feel as if i have absolute power and relief me from my boyish dreams. you may think that imagining myself to have that kind of power is satanic but no, it is actually not bcos i can differentiate between reality and fantasy.

That is hilarious. And yea, protection would not prevent destruction from Obliterate. Protection will prevent any damage of the source, it will also prevent targeting from the source it has protection from. It can block creatures of the protected color and not receive damage, and it is unblockable to creatures with the protected color. It will not prevent global destruction effects though. I hope I cleared that up ok.

I need help with the issue of Magic Cards. I am only 17, so I am following what my parents say, but they say I cannot play this game because it involves summoning creatures that are unholly and that "Goblins, demons, etc. all exsist in the real world and that I am actually summoning these." Please tell me how to convince them that this is not true. Keep in mind though that when Pokemon was big they litteraly said it was the devil.
