I tried to have an impact in a few places and failed because I lacked credibility. As a result, I'm trying again but in a more methodical manner that will hopefully achieve those credentials. It doesn't mean I'll succeed, but it's hard for me not to try. The problem is, things like this take a large dose of motivation, dedication, and determination. IOW, it takes a very long time. As such, I just don't have the bandwidth to take on any more.
It sounds like you have a lot more experience with this than me. I've come to some of the same conclusions. It will take significant time, work, and credentials to overcome the inertia on this issue. I've been doing tests and some strategizing of my own: writing letters and seeing what sort of responses I get, working on my education, and am planning on getting involved with writing articles for the Canadian Lutheran and a blog to get my name out there. I think those of us with the advantage of scientific expertise are obliged to stand up and together point out falsehood in some way as well as leadership's responsibility to listen to laymen with expertise they lack. It's good to hear others are doing what they can, and are having similar experiences. I've really appreciated your input on this, Resha.
Thinking and praying about it more is definitely wise advice. It's had for me to know if in the future I'm better off just leaving LCC because they bother my conscience so much with this, but at the same time, it is my home right now and I think is worth trying to help out. Conservative churches suffer enough of a scientific brain-drain already because of things like this.
