Broken is mainly a call to forsake man-centered doctrine and practice and return to Christ-centered doctrine and practice. He starts off with Koeberle's three baddies: Moralism, Mysticism and Rationalism, then moves on to four more errors that have crept into modern American vanilla-Protestant Christianity over the last few centuries.

Not books, but very good resources nonetheless ...

Daily Lectionary, liturgygeek.com

Daily Reflections · Higher Things

also, Memorial Moments is a very good daily devotional via email from Rev Scott Murray of Memorial Lutheran Church in Houston.

I wish someone would put up a site like http://www.missionstclare.com/english/ , but of course, for a price, you can download PrayNow, the app version of the Treasury of Daily Prayer.

(PrayNow doesn't work on my HP Touchpad :( )

I just finished reading "The Spirituality of the Cross" by Edward Veith Jr. I cannot recommend this book enough as I found it impossible to put down. It explains the Lutheran faith in such an amazing, fresh way. It made me excited and reinvigorated my faith.

This is the first book I recommend to anyone considering Lutheranism, either in an effort to understand it more fully or who may wish to become Lutheran. It is an excellent explanation of the heart of Lutheran Spirituality to today's culture.

And welcome to the board. :)

Hi I am relatively new to Lutheranism and I am wondering what are good books that explain the Lutheran perspective. I have read a lot of Luther, Lutheranism 101, and have started reading the Book of Concord. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hello. I'm not a member of a Lutheran congregation - but I was married in a WELS Church , and my 3 offsprings got water drops put on their foreheads at a WELS Church, ( Christ The King in La Habra Heights, Cal., USA [ Closed.] ) and have attended Christmas services at WELS and LCMS churches ... hope that is Okay enough for the Thread Question. :)

1st: "Here I Stand" by Roland Bainton. Very readable history about Martin Luther and how the Reformation started.

Other folks have mentioned the Small Cat.. Try also the Large Cat. and finish the Book of Concord , and read the Augburg Confession. Those are basic Lutheranism.

Check out the webpage for the WELS - "NorthWestern Publishing House" , and look around their lists. They had (have ) a monthly magazine iirc "Forward in Christ". They also have a series of small booklets ( possibly done in co-operation with the LCMS [ Concordia Pubs ? ] ) about several topics such as talking with : J.W.'s / Mormons / Lodge members / Moslems and other groups/ isms/ topics.

2nd: "Commentary on Galatians" by Martin Luther ; Kregel Pubs.

3rd: "Commentary on Romans" by Martin Luther ; Kregel Pubs..

4th: "Bondage of the Will" by Martin Luther

Some of these titles can be read for free at certain internet sites such as ccel dot org { I think they have Luther's Commentaries and several sermons ] and also monergism dot org ( or dot com ?). They also (iirc) probably have works by Phillip Melancthon [ Luther's associate/assistant ].

This is off topic but I ask anyway: Are you trying to make fun of your kids baptism or what's up with the water drops wording??
