  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Great speaker, great message. Just today I was dealing with someone who was making me feel bad for having less (money) than them. I still can't completely let go of the "security" of money, but I'm beginning to see the fallacy of money as a substitute for the steadfast love of God.

Thank you for posting.

Jacks, I have less money than most. I don't feel bad about it, but what I do have is priceless. God, good health, good friends & family, debt-free, and free of daily stress. This didn't happen overnight, I had to actually learn and apply what St. Isaac the Syrian taught. Hope it helps out, best wishes.

"Dead To The World"
"The world is the general name for all passions. When we wish to call the passions by a common name, we call them the world. But when we wish to distinguish them by their special names, we call them passions. The passions are the following: love of riches, desire for possessions, bodily pleasures from which comes sexual passion, love of honor gives rise to envy, lust for power, arrogance and pride of position, the craving to adorn oneself with luxurious clothing and vain ornaments, the itch for human glory which is a source of rancor and resentment, and physical fear. Where these passions cease to be active, there the world is dead....
Someone has said of the Saints that while alive they were dead; for though living in the flesh, they did not live for the flesh. See for which of these passions you are alive. Then you will know how far you are alive to the world, and how far you are dead to it." --St. Isaac the Syrian, 7th Century

If anyone is curious just how much this message is for you (or me) personally, may I suggest we check out our comparative wealth with others around the world on this wealth calculator.

I'm below the median level in the USA, but in the top 1% in the world.

Interesting, thanks.

I'm in the top 10% in the world. I guess I feel richer, or poorer - it matters which way I look at it.

I am in the top 3% of the world. All well and good, yet, creative accounting for a purpose. What is not calculated into the equation and results is the cost of living in the various parts of the world.

Where the average cost of living is say, $100. USD a month, those in that area that are only earning $125./month are in the upper middle class, yet below the poverty line in the USA and western Europe.

Do not misunderstand me here, please. When it comes to income and cost of living, I am a non-capitalist and would prefer that the modern day Christians adopt the 1st century church attitude of sharing so that none is in want.

To me, money is a mere tool just like a hammer, screwdriver, wrench or drill. I give as needs are presented to me that I have available to meet those needs. Need a wrench? If I have it, I will give it to you. If you give it back to me, great, now I can give it to someone else that needs it up the road. If you don't give it back, oh well, I know where to buy another one just like it.

I do not let tools stand in the way of loving relationships.

I do not loan tools. I give with little to no thought of getting the tool back. If it returns to me, wonderful. If you need it and keep it, wonderful.............

PS

Oh, and I am not interested in giving to POKE, the master of the website that GraceSeeker provided.
They have offices in two of the highest cost of living areas in the world; London and NYC.
In the overall scheme of my giving they are not even on the list for consideration, since they are not interested in reaching the lost for Christ.
