If you say that Jesus made the Old Covenant Mosaic Law obsolete through his completed work, then God's measuring plumline from the Cross (sign of Jonah) and onwards is no longer the Mosaic Law.
Zechariah's prophesy said: do not despair over the small beginnings; God will see to it that the temple is completed, and God the Holy Spirit will oversee the project to its completion for his hands shall finish it. “Whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of God” (Zechariah 4:10).
The term plumb line is used in Scripture in several contexts. The Lord pictures Himself as a builder in Isaiah 28: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation” (Isaiah 28:16). This is a promise of an unshakeable kingdom, with the Messiah in charge. Jesus Christ is the “precious cornerstone” (see Mark 12:10; Acts 4:11; Romans 9:33; 1 Peter 2:6). As the Lord builds His kingdom, He will ensure it is perfect in every way: “I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line” (Isaiah 28:17). There will be no crookedness/sin in the kingdom of Christ.
So if Christ is the justice measuring line and his righteousness the plumb line for God to dispense His judgement, then the mosaic law irrespective of the desolate house continuing in it is never the measuring plumb line that God uses in dispensing judgement.
The Law states God was going to raise up a prophet from Israel. Israel, per the Law, was commanded to listen to him
Deuteronomy 18:15 The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen
As per the Law, those that would not listen to this prophet, would be held accountable.
Deuteronomy 18:19 And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.
Cursed would be anyone who did not listen to the commands of the Law by doing them. This includes listening to the prophet like moses (Jesus) that God would raise up.
Deuteronomy 27:26 ‘Cursed be anyone who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
Jesus, the prophet like moses that God would raise up, describes the punishment for those who did not listen to him or recognize his timing.
Luke 19:44 And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”
So yes, old covenant, unfaithful Israel, who rejected Christ, was cursed according to the Law for not listening to Jesus.
The mosaic law vanished at the Cross, because it ceased to being the measuring benchmark/plumbline by which God dispenses judgement.
This directly contradicts scripture. Hebrews and 2 corinthians were written after the cross. Using the present tense, the old covenant was desribed as growing old, aging, and fading away.
Hebrews 8:13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is growing old and aging is ready to vanish away.
2 Corinthians 3:11 For if what is fading away came with glory, much more will what is permanent have glory.
You would be mistaken, because it would imply that God still used it as his justice measuring line and its righteousness the plumb line in dispensing judgement.
The Law specifically states that those that did not listen to the prophet raised up like moses would be held accountable. The Israelites were commanded to follow all of the law or otherwise be cursed. Thus those that would not listen to Jesus would be cursed according to the law. This means destruction
Deuteronomy 28:45 All these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you till you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that he commanded you.
So it is clear, cut and dry that when the priesthood was changed according to Hebrews, then the mosaic law no longer became a measuring plumb line for God. Since God changed the mosaic law to Christ's Law, then the Cross (sign of Jonah) is when the Old Covenant ceased to be God's benchmark for dispensing His judgement.
There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Those that rely on the works of the law and do not do ALL of things written are cursed. Ironically, following the Law requires listening to Jesus and obeying him (deuteronomy 18). Thus those of the old covenant who relied on the law and rejected Jesus are cursed to destruction.
Galatians 3:10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”
Regardless of the Jews continuing to observe the law, the act would be seen by God as defiance and an abomination.
I agree, not because the Law is bad, God forbid. But because sin's power comes from the Law. And sin uses the law to bring death. Ironically, according to Deuteronomy 18, it is impossible to reject Christ AND follow the law. Any time we rely on our own works to please God, we are actually defying God.
To even suggest that two agreements existed in God's hands for 40 years is to denigrate the Cross and the Father's character.
I think here is where the misunderstanding comes in. These are not 2 fully in-effect covenants co-existing at the same time. There is one obsolete covenant that was ready to vanish, of which had Jews in slavery. The other covenant, the New covenant was established at the cross.
In the new covenant, the Law is fulfilled in believers because of Christ's death. However, those who remained slaves to the old obsolete covenant, who rejected, Christ, faced the cursed of the Law.
Hebrews 10:9 Then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second.
God had discarded the Old Covenant agreement at the Cross
God made the Old covenant obsolete at the cross. Hebrews 8:13
he rebellious Jews continued in it, God eventually condemned them by the measure of his Son's plumb line.
Which comes from the Law.
