1Cor. 13:1If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don’t have love, I am nothing. 3If I dole out all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don’t have love, it profits me nothing. [WEB]

As is common with the Word of God, this passage of scripture is most often taken out of it's context for application. However there is a rule of hermeneutics that, when reading scripture, I live by. “No scripture can ever be fully understood without the light of all scripture shinning on it.” Couple this with “never take a scripture nor a passage of scripture out of it's context” and you are thoroughly set to be confused. These rules are a must but, and that is a large but, without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and prayer, wrapped around your study, it is, entirely, possible that the scripture studied will, as it does to the Lost Man, remain a mystery to you without useful meaning.

Most of the sermons I have heard on the thirteenth chapter are messages on love. And as anyone can see, that is not far out of the ball-park and, likely, was inspired by the Holy Spirit but this is a sandwiched passage of scripture. In this world today everything must be lightning fast and in trying to live that way, people have lost the art of reading. When we look at chapter 12, verse 1, Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant, [ASV], we see the introduction to the subject of chapters twelve through fourteen. Paul is speaking on the Spiritual Gifts that enable men to do some of the works of God.

Christians are saved by God's grace alone and from that being preached from the pulpit, many get the wrong idea. On the web I preface my signature with Bond Servant and I feel that I am even though I am also a child of God. When Jesus gave up the ghost, the purchase of your and my souls was the transaction that occurred. It was as though I were on the Slave Blocks of the seventeen and the eighteen hundreds and Satan and Jesus were bidding but Jesus, the Christ, went all in... literally!

So it is that being purchased we are now empowered to do our Master's bidding, His appointed works.

Now, but greed! Greed is the one common denominator for all humanity... sad but true. I believe it is safe to say that ninety-nine point five percent of all Christians have knowledge of the crowns God will award those that have worked according to His will. Some remember but some forget that we will also have the privilege of willingly giving them up by casting them to the feet of the Son of God, Jesus. I believe they forget because of greed. Crowns are valuable, here on the Earth but in Heaven, even, the streets are paved with Gold.

We must, when saved, converted or whatever you wish to call it, take on God's love! When Jesus, God in the flesh of a man, stood and absorbed those beatings, the thirty-nine lashes and the death on the cross He did so because it was the will of the Father and because He loved the Crown Jewel of His creation, mankind. If we do, what we believe to be, the works of God's will to earn a crown, we lose! If we do our works for the glory of God for the benefit of the other people, at our expense, perhaps we will earn one of those crowns but it should not matter.

Two points, Jesus did not enjoy having His beard jerked out by the roots and that is the least of His pain and He did do this thing because He loves us. The long and the short of the matter is, Jesus is the model or the pattern for our lives and we are to imitate Him because we love Him and in doing so, we love the strangest people.

May God bless this message to your hearts, Amen!

You brought very important subject th1bill, perhaps the most important of all subjects in the Bible.

1Corinthians 13.3
3.If I give away all my possessions and if I hand over my body so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. (NRSV)

3.And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. (KSB) (GNB) (The Gideons Bible) (Russian Bible)

In the Bible Love serves as the most important aspect of our Faith in GOD, of our worship of GOD, and of our Works in GOD’S name.

It is absolutely obvious that believing in GOD alone as many think this way, far is not enough to be godly, to please GOD, and to be saved.

Believing in GOD also required true Love above all other things. And if someone believes in GOD but has no true Love, his believing in GOD is in vain, such person would never receive expected results from his/her believing.

I always imagine Spiritual Love as a box of treasuries, and when box of Love is open it contain GOD’S Grace which revealed itself in such Qualities as: Mercy, Compassion, Understanding, Forgiveness, Self-sacrifice, and so on. Another word, Love is the summary of all GOD’S goodness and of all best Spiritual Qualities of the godly souls of men.

Qualities of true Love.

1Corinthians 13.4-8
4.Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous, love does not brag, and is not arrogant,
5.does not act unbecomingly, it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong,
6.does not rejoice in unrighteousness but rejoiced with the truth,
7.bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8.Love never fails (never pass away), but if there are gifts of prophesy they will be done away (pass away), if there are tongues they will cease, if there is knowledge it will be done away.

And no wonder that when Jesus was asked, what the first and the most important Commandments of the Law of Moses? He answered, “To Love your GOD with all your heart and with al your soul.”

Deuteronomy 11.13
13.If you will only listen His every Commandment that I am commanding you today, loving the Lord your GOD and serving Him with all your heart and with all your soul,

And the second most important Commandment also about Love.

Leviticus 19.18.34
18.You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
34.The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you, you shall love the alien as yourself, you were aliens in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord, your GOD.
(Matthew 19.19, 22.37-40) (Mark 12.32-33) (Luke 10.27) (John 13.1.34-35) (1Peter 1.22, 2.17, 3.8, 4.8)

And on the basis of Love for your neighbor, Jesus also declared to His Apostles to Love one another.

John 15.9.12-13

9.As the Father has loved Me, so I have loved you, abide in My love.

12.This is My commandment, that you love one another as I loved you.

And here Jesus explained the greatest level of Love, which He showed to us on the cross, to be example for us in Love.

13.No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

What it takes to be a child of GOD?
To be kind like GOD, Who is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

Luke 6.27.35
27.But I say to you that listen. Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
35.But Love your enemies, do good, and lend expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, He is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

What kind of people GOD loves? Those who keep His Commandments.

Exodus 20.6
6.but showing love to the thousandth generations of those who love Me and keep My Commandments.
Deuteronomy 5.10

Psalms 103.17-18 (of David)
17.But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children's children,
18.to those who keep His Covenant and remember to do His Commandments.

John 14.15.21.23-24
15.If you love Me you will keep My commandments.
21.They who have My commandments and keep them are those who love Me, and those who love Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love them and reveal Myself to them.”
23.Jesus answered him, “Those who love Me will keep My word, and My Father will love them, and We will come to them and make Our home with them.
24.Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words, and the word that you hear is not Mine but is from the Father Who sent Me.

John 15.10
10.If you keep My Commandments you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s Commandments and abide in His love.

How the Law of GOD can be fulfilled? It can be fulfilled on the basis of Love.

Romans 13.8.10
8.Owe no one anything except to love one another, the one who loves another has fulfilled the Law.
10.Love does no wrong to a neighbor, therefore love is the fulfilling of the Law.
What kind Conditions GOD set to define true Love for Him?

Matthew 10.37
37.Whoever loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me,

Work of Faith and Labor of Love.

1Thessalonians 1.2-3
2.We give thanks to GOD always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers,
3.constantly bearing in mind your Work of Faith and Labor of Love, and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the presence of our GOD and Father,

Prophesy of Moses concerning Spiritual Circumcision of Jesus Christ.

Deuteronomy 30.6.16.20

6.Moreover, the Lord your GOD will Circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants so that you will love the Lord your GOD with all your heart and with all your soul, in order that you may live.

Love and the Knowledge of GOD much better than any of the rituals of the Law.

Hosea 6.6
6.I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of GOD rather than burnt offerings.

1 Cor 13 can stand alone, and Good message BTW and dead on. but why you here that chapter by itself is it can stand alone.

Here we find the important message that I have been taught and stress to my family who think they will out smart God on the day of judgement saying, "well i believed you said in john 3:16". The truth is you need to Love God first and then each other to enter heaven, now it does not have to be perfect but love must be there. When God said believe, He did not mean that He is God, He meant to put your faith, your love, your hope, your trust, everything you are and have into Him. This is the believe God speaks of, It is the desperate act of a man in the desert for a 1000 years with no water, He see water and with everything he is he runs and drinks all that water. The water is God, we are all that man or woman in the desert. Demons believe God is god yet will never be saved, What makes us different? We love, and when you love you give it all, you hold nothing back. That is what God did. That is how God showed us the meaning of Love. Jesus said seek the Kingdom of Heaven first. and also He said the Kingdom of Heaven was like a man who found buried treasure in a field, the man buried the treasure back went home and sold everything he had to purchase that field. Now what does that mean to you? Put everything you got into God. I could not do this, but what I did was beg to be God's slave, and so now truly I am His slave. I do not have free will to do my own thing I try, but come running back to the Lords work because it is the only way I can Live.

1john 4:8 He who has never loved does not know God, for God is Love. Now people think well everyone has Love,1 Cor 13 tells us what Love is, ask does everyone have this. I post it.

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

This is Love, and many think they love but its not, you can only love like this if you have Jesus inside you, or calling to you.

Good job bill, great message, keep em' coming.
