  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How can I truly love God with all my might and all my will when I am so ghastly afraid of Him?

DT, peace be with you,
That's interesting. I didn't reazlied you feared God that much. I'm sure you know that love should be the primary driving force that draws you nearer to God. Fear, although present, is secondary.

With regards to the "how", pray for it. Pray for it day in and day out.

When you have some time, find a quite place, and be still. Focus your attention on the gosepls; towards the passion Jesus Christ. Keep your attention towards our heavenly family; picture Mary, Jesus, and the Father in heaven looking down upon you with arms open, patiently awaiting you to come home. Picture the bright light of the holy spirit eminating from them and pervading through your body. Find this stillness; pray for this silence in your heart; ask Mary for her help and she will bring you *much* closer to the prpfound love of her Son.

If you can do this meditation while saying the sorrowful mysteries, it would do you well.

Also, try counting your blessings. Make a list of everything you are thankfull for in this life; everything that you have been given. Realize that everything you have that is good, all that you are, is a gift from God.

And I know you are going to daily Mass already, which is huge. Just continue in your perseverence and don't give up.

May the Lord give you His peace!

Wow, I couldn't have said it better myself. DT, may the Lord grant you His perpetual peace, and may you find that His love soon wells up from the very bottom of your heart, on which He has emblazoned His truth. He chose you in Him before you were born. Numerous times in the Gospels we are told, "do not be afraid." Have no fear, for His infinite love for you knows no bounds. Always remember that the life-giving gift of the sacrifice of His only Son was for your sake. Need you really fear such a loving Father to the point where it hinders your love for Him? :)

Amor, fides, et spes. You are a blessed child of God! Rejoice, and be glad.
