Abbey suddenly realised she was lost. The trees and grass were so high around her, she couldn't find the way she had come from. She was turning round and round, jumping at every little noise.

Why had she run? It was safe on the beach with the others. What if someone had come to rescue them while she was lost in the jungle? How stupid! Would they remember she was there? Surely they'd take a roll and realise one was missing? But what if they thought she was dead? They might rescue the others and leave her here...

Abbey let out a frustrated cry.....and froze.

There was a noise, a scream, but not human. It sounded like some sort of monster. Abbey went quiet, her heart thudding in her chest. The long grass on her left suddenly swished and Abbey felt herself panic. She screamed and turned and ran through the grass.

Something was chasing her, it was right behind her! Abbey felt herself trip and go down onto the hard ground. She pulled her legs up to her chest and lay still, trying to breathe quietly, her eyes swimming with tears. She squeezed them shut.

And waited.

There was silence.

Had the thing gone? The grass swayed in the breeze, but there was no other noise. The thing had gone. What was it?

Abbey began to cry.

Yelena jumped and spun around, facing the jungle. A strange sound had just come from the jungle...at least, it sounded like it.
"Did you guys hear that?" Yelena asked, turning to face the others.
The noise sounded again, and this time, trees began to sway back and forth as if they were blades of grass. Yelena's eyes widened in fear. What could possibly be big enough to move trees like that?

(( Haha, thanks for letting me join! Here's my character:

Sian Luveld

And now ... my first pos ... how strange that I should join an RPG about leaving Australia! ))

"We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on Earth we come ..."

The soothing lyrics played across Sian's headphones as she leaned back in her seat, her eyes closing of her own volition. The discman tucked into the pocket on the back of the seat in front of her, her hands were left free to fiddle with the pen in her hand. On the 'breakfast tray,' four sheets of stationary paper were spread out, two of them covered with her large scrawling handwriting. They were letters to her friends, the ones she had just left, and was already missing with all of her aching heart.

//Why did I have to leave?// she demanded of herself, coming up with the answers she'd been rationalising the flight with for the last six months. //I'm not an Australian permanent resident, so I'm not eligible for most of their scholarships. More opportunities. Extended family around. Broader experiences.// The same reasons ran through her mind relentlessly, seemingly empty and echoing.

"We share a dream, and sing with one voice ...
I am, you are, we are Australian ... "

The words pierced Sian to the core, and taking out the earphones, she wrapped them carefully around the discman and returned it to her carry-on. //I'm not Australian anymore,// she thought sadly, //just another U.S. citizen and college student.//

The plane jolted a little, throwing her sideways in her seat. Having only been able to afford an economy class ticket, she was wedged in tightly on both sides by dubious-looking personalities like a sardine in a can. //With a lot of other sardines,// Sian reminded herself, as the plane shook more violently, buffeted around by unseen forces.

Sian didn't need the seatbelt sign light to warn her to put on her seatbelt - she never unfastened it anyway, being an experienced globe trotter on holidays. The long flight from Sydney to L.A. was constantly prone to bad turbulence, so she wasn't overly bothered until it became obvious that the plane was losing altitude. The aircraft was now shaking to the extreme, and her stationary went flying overhead as with a noise of the tearing of metal. Grabbing the arms of her seat, Sian craned her head around to see that the entire back of the plane had been torn away, and the clouds falling away around them. She screamed, but couldn't hear anything but the rush of the wind. She lost consciousness even before the oxygen masks fell, her head pounding from rapid pressure changes.

Hours Later ...

The first thing that registered was the sound of waves lapping the sand on the shore. The second was the ache of her body.

Sian woke fully, her eyes snapping open to see ... sand. Lots of sand. She was lying on her side, staring down from a bank of sand at a chaotic scene of people running, crying, smoke rising from mangled pieces of metal, and waves lapping at dead bodies and struggling forms both. With a gasp, she rediscovered her lungs, and the air was rough on the back of her throat.

Sian struggled to get her arms underneath her, realising belatedly that her balence was extremely bad, and the muscles in her left leg seemed extremely strained. Carefully, she explored the movement of her body, and discovered to her relief that all of her limbs worked however painfully - miraculously, she had no broken bones.

The worst of her pain seemed to come from her waist, and raising the hem of her jacket, Sian saw a massive red welt across her lower abdomen. //From the seatbelt,// she recognised, having seen car crash victims on TV. There were four long red scratches across her left shoulder and kneck, but in the shock she hardly felt them. //Besides, they're hardly bleeding at all.//

Only when she'd managed to get to her feet unsteadily, Sian looked around with any real comprehension. //So, the plane crashed and we're on some isolated tropical island, right? I wonder whether we'll meet any new undiscovered animals or something!// Her curiosity was piqued, and the full impact of the crash hadn't sunk in yet.

Limping, the teen made her way down towards the wreck, looking wildly around for anyone familiar. Seeing no one, she turned her attention to the baggage and bodies strewn across the sand. She tried to find a pulse on several bodies, but her hands were shaking so much she couldn't be sure. Eventually she saw her carry-on lying among a mound of others, and her purse a few feet away. Stumbling, she managed to pull them up onto a dry stretch of beach, near to the trees, before returning to the bodies to see if she could be of any help.

The rustling started again. Only it wasn't as big and there was no roar. Abbey closed her eyes shut again, terrified at what she would find if she opened them. She felt warm breath on her cheek and her heart raced. She braced herself for certain death.

Something licked her.

Abbey frowned and opened her eyes. A white labrador was licking her face, his big brown eyes staring into hers. She burst into laughter, relieved that she was looking at a dog and not a monster. Could it have been the thing she heard? Surely not...

Abbey noticed a leash hanging from the dog's neck.

"Are you owned, boy? Where did you come from?" Abbey said, picking up the leash.

The dog pulled in one direction and Abbey followed him. He lead her through the tall grass. Soon the dirt under her feet turned to sand and she found herself once again standing on the beach. Her heart jumped as she saw everybody on the beach; the injured lying, the dead being buried, everybody upset and in shock. Thank God they had not left without her. But that could be a bad thing, if they hadn't been found yet. It was getting dark. She would find somewhere to sleep.

She curled up on the sand and pulled the dog close to her. He lay down next to her and rested his head on her stomach. She patted him. "Good night boy. I'll look after you until we find your owner. You saved me."

Abbey closed her eyes.

Jake looked around and walked to the main beach. What a tiring day. I have had worse though...

(*Flashback noise you always hear in the show*) 13-year-old Jake was running through the hallways getting away from the men he dreaded. "Stop Jake, we have come to take you back to the boss," one of the men said "We will use any measures we have to!" "Use away I don't plan on going back," Jake said, throwing things to block the men pursuing him. Almost out... "Open fire!" (*Flasback ends*)

Jake saw a group of people on a beach and headed towards them.

Jake looke up and around the beach casually as if nothing happened. It would be odd for any man to act like Jake, who was feeling happy for himself. He thought a while and remembered...

(*Flashback noise*) Jake saw the men open fire, with stun guns, and he ducked and ran in zig-zags to avoid the stunning bullets. When almost out of the way toward the airplane leaving for Sidney, Australia and freedom. He flew past the airport security check, even though the security guards tried to stop him. When he saw the door to get on the plane open, he ran closer until he was shot with the stun gun inside the plane just as the door closed and the plane tool off. (*flasback ends*)

Jake was happy he was safe from the evil man and his hooligans on the island for the moment...
