I thought it was rather boring also. Not nearly as good as I was wishing. I thought the very very end was the best part.

I think this guy said it best

WOW, WOW, WOW -- I LOVE HURLEY  to Hurley!!! I want to know as well what those numbers were engraved on -- SOMEBODY, please, please :prayer: tell me!!! I thought it was one of the best episodes, but another unanswered question is what are the memories that the little mommy-to-be may be getting ready to reveal to Locke. AND . . . what will he do??? I'm loving it.

Just for reference, does anyone know the numers?

I remember 15 and 16, because it's my birthday and my Moms.
I think 8,15, and 16,

I thought the episode was great.
Hurley wins millions and gets all kinds of bad luck.
Just my luck, to win millions and get stranded somewhere the money is worthless.

OK, Did Locke know it was Clares birthday?
Or did he just decide to build it because she is close to her due date?

Why was the trip wire so far outside the blast area? It wasn't meant to kill, it was meant to destroy her home. Otherwise Jack would have been killed.

They didn't show it, but did the team looking for the French "chick" take the pistols?
With Boars and other dangerous animals I think they should have.

Lets hope the plumbing works for Claire and she be able to breast feed. otherwise they will not be able to feed the child. Of course not to many people on TV have
feeding problems. La Leche league reference here.

Okay, okay, I'm dying here. Someone PLEASE (since it's the next day and you don't have to use spoilers anymore) PLEASE tell me what happened...and don't forget all those important little details. I can't wait for them to repeat this episode. I wish I had a *beg* smilie because I'm begging here. ;)

OK OK but I will use spoilers

We start off with Hurley at home, his mom giving him a hard time about not being out on a Saturday night, needing to find a girl, gaining weight. The we see that he's watching the lottery announcement, and he's won mega millions.

Cut to press conference with his family. "How did you pick the numbers," is a question he won't answer. He really excited to spend time with his grandfather who has been working three jobs for 52 years. When he turns back to the camera, the grandfather collaspes and dies. Cut to Hurly in a new SUV, taking his mother somewhere, talking about all the bad luck he's had since winning the money, like his brother's wife leaving. He's thinking the money is cursed, the mother yells at him, "We don't believe in curses. We're Catholic." Hurley stops at the "mansion" he bought for his mother, He wants it to be a surprise, so he blindfolds her. She breaks her ankle on the sidewalk since she can't see. They had arrived just in time to see smoke start coming from the house. Before he can finish dialing 911 the cops show up... and mistakenly arrest him for being a drug dealer.

Cut to Hurley and his accountant. Hurley's money is growing by leaps and bounds. It turns out he owns a box company in Flordis (sound familar?), but his another factory burned down, eight dead, but it was over insured. Hurley has a realization, it's the numbers that are cursed, not the money. The accountant doesn't believe him.

Cut to Hurley at an inpatient facility. The docter let's him he, he used to be a patient. Hurley wants to talk to a guy Lenord. Lenord just play Connect Four by himself, and contiunally mutters.... that's right the numbers. The guy tells Hurley the numbers came from his friend/partner in the Navy. They were part of an intercepted message he monitered 16 years ago. Hurley tells the guy he played the numbers in the lottery and the guy freaks out. The last thing he says is that his friend is in Austrialia.

Cut to Hurley in Austrailia at the friends house. He's talking to the wife. She tells him more about the guy, how they got the numbers. The friend used the numbers in some contest and won. Then bad things started happening. Like he wrecked the car, his wife lost her leg, he didn't get a scratch. They ran away to Austrailia to try to get away and make the bad things stop happening. "Did they?" Hurley asks. Yes, the wife replies, when he killed himself. Hurley tells the woman he is having the same thing happen. She doesn't believe him.
and we are left to assume that Hurley then got on the plane to come home.

Of course all that happened in and out of the island stuff

Heather,

Here's what happened.

Hurley's Background Story:
Hurley (or as we now have learned, "Hugo") is sitting in front of the tv watching gameshows and eating fried chicken. His mother is nagging him about being a couch-potato. Not long after, the lottery numbers show up on the screen and Hurley learns that he's just won $156 Million dollars. Hurley faints.

News Reporters show up at Hurley's house. Hurley starts talking about all the wonderful things that he wants to do with his money. He presents his 70+ yr old grandfather and talks about the fact that he's worked 3 jobs for over 50 years and he's going to make sure that his grandfather can finally rest. Suddenly, his grandfather has a heart attack in front of everyone and dies.

Days later, Hurley is driving his mother around in a yellow Hummer. He's bringing her to a surprise. While driving, he's talking about all the bad things that have been happening. He brings up the fact that he thinks the money is cursed. His mother slaps him and says that Catholics do not believe in curses. During this ride, we also learn that Hurley's brother had to move back home since his wife left him for another woman. Also, Hurley's uncle got struck by lightning during his grandfather's funeral. Finally, they arrive to the big surprise, which is a brand new mansion for Hurley's mother. Hurley tells his mother to put on a blindfold over her eyes before coming out of the car. Doing this causes her to trip over the curb and hurt her ankle. At the same time, Hurley looks up at the mansion and sees that one of the bedrooms is on fire! And to add insult to injury, a squad of cops suddenly drive up with guns drawn and arrest Hurley for mistaken identity (they think he's a drug dealer).

Next scene... Hurley is talking to what appears to be his personal financial advisor. He's learning that his stocks and investments are a huge mess... he's invested in an orange company, but the crops have burned... he's invested in a sneaker company, but the factory burned down killing 5 people... Hurley brings up the thought to his advisor that the money is cursed. The advisor laughs at him. Suddenly, out the window, they see a man falling to his death from the top of the office tower. The advisor asks Hurley how he came up with the lottery numbers, and then suddenly things start to come together for Hurley.

Next scene: Hurley is at a mental institution in search of an old friend. He finds the friend, who is playing Connect Four all by himself. While playing, this friend just keeps repeating the numbers to himself over and over again. Hurley is trying to talk over him and ask questions, but Hurley is ignored. Finally, Hurley says that he used the numbers and won the lottery. He finally has his friend's attention. "You used the numbers??? You shouldn't have done that!! Now you've opened up the box of curses! Aaarrggghhh!!!" The friend goes into a psycho fit. While being dragged away by the staff, Hurley asks his friend where he got the numbers from. The friend mentions the name of a man that he served in the war with who now lives in a remote town in Australia.

Hurley is now in Australia. He finds the house (which is literally in the middle of a desert) and is greeted by the man's wife. She informs Hurley that the man he is in search of has died as a result to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. She then explains that her husband heard the numbers while out to sea during the war and the numbers (or the voice that was repeating the numbers) traumatized him in a way such that he could never forget the numbers. The man and his wife went to a carnival and came across a jar that was filled with beans. There was a contest where anyone who could guess the number of beans in the jar would win a tonne of money. The man used the sum of the numbers to guess the number of beans and got the answer right... down to the last bean. It was unbelievable to them. While on their way home, a truck driving in the opposite direction lost control and crashed into them. The wife lost her leg as a result of the accident. Other bad things happened and that's what prompted them to move into the middle of the desert. Unconvinced that his bad luck had gone away, the man commited suicide. But the wife didn't believe there to be any curse to begin with.

Hurley's goal is to find someone who will AGREE with him that the numbers are cursed.

I'll post the island story in a second...

Great... while I'm busy typing a novel, someone beat me to it.

How do I use spoilers? I'm guessing I should edit my post and cover it up?
You could just edit it and make all the spoilers white...that's what I do, but I'm just too lazy to use the spoiler tags (I know, it's shameful considering I'm a Small Screen mod). But, I think instructions are posted in the main Small Screen Forum.
