----------- may or may not be finished ----------- :)

In the Elven Land of Lothlorien
Paul Ellsworth

In the Elven land of Lothlorien,
The grass and trees are ever green;
Naught but sogns of birds can be heard,
In the Elven land of Lothlorien.

In the Elven land of Lothlorien,
The land is long in song;
With beautiful voices the elves do sing,
In the Elven land of Lothlorien.

In the Elven land of Lothlorien,
Evil is chased afar!
Evildoers flee and are ne'er to be seen,
In the Elven land of Lothlorien.

In the Elven land of Lothlorien,
Galadriel is the elven Queen;
She keeps the land with a magic ring,
In the Elven land of Lothlorien.

In the Elven land of Lothlorien,
Sorrows brought are soon forgot;
And happiness does it bring,
In the Elven land of Lothlorien.

Tom Bombadil, Yellow and Blue
Paul Ellsworth

Old Man Willow, open up now;
Tom Bombadil is here for Merry!
Quickly now, out you go;
Why were you caught, tell me how!
What are you up to, who is he,
But come and dine, you with me!

Goldberry shall prepare
A glorious meal,
Fit for kings, and it's no eel:
So come and see, pull up a chair.

You shall sleep here,
And there and anywhere;
You'll sleep deep,
Without a single care.
Sleep well and goodnight,
Don't let the barrow wights bite!

Awake, 'tis morning,
And you must be going;
Away to Bree,
Do not linger, hurry!

-----------------------------------------------

Lament for Gandalf,
Me :p

Oh gray wanderer, friend of all,
We mourn your loss, we mourn your fall;
We remember your face, your beard, and grace,
How you were short, and yet so tall.

Your eyes of piercing,
That mind of yours, always searching;
We remember these, and call with pleading,
Yet alas! we are still mourning.

You fought to the last
And saved your friends;
Did your best to fulfill the quest
Like a servant that Eru sends.

Your final stand, 'twas on the bridge,
Narrow it was, and was of stone;
It was there you fell, with the foe,
Giving your last command in a desperate tone.

oh yeah! but i like the moive better than the book lol
LOTR's a very typical fantasy novel, well, on the surface anyway if one didn't get down to the christian stuff behind it. :p

i like Merry and Pippin, they're so.... clumsy.. yet courageous.

I like the book better than the movies :D And yeah, Merry and Pippin were funny in the movie - which is true to teh book, they were rather ... carefree, most of the time. :)

I don't think LOTR is a typical fantasy novel though - for one thing, it's more of a reality. It's not an allegory, but it's not compeltely void of all truth... it has God, it has a spiritual warfare if you will, that sort of thing. Also, it does not seem to me that any other fantasy novel really has the Tolkien style of fantasy - elves and that sort of thing - nor the complexity... I don't know any other author that paid so much attention to the moon phases, the languages, etc. :)

The languages used in the book, as well as at least the Elvish used in the movie (also known as Quenya, and the other Elvish language is Sindarin) are fully developed languages - Quenya the most developed. It sounds really cool :D

Fan? Just FAN? :eek: NO! I'm not JUST a FAN of LotR, I LOVE LOTR! :) :clap:

I've seen the movie six times, have ALL the bookmarks, have all the books, reading The Two Towers, have a desktop, screensaver, BK kids toy, drinking Goblet, poster, and I'm head over heels for that really hot actor Orlando Bloom. Need I say more?

I've seen the movie only twice..... er, no bookmarks... I just read through the whole book ;) I've read all the LOTR books twice, and the first one probably five times. I've also read....

Unfinished Tales
The Silmarillion - twice
The Lost Tales, Part 1
Adventures of Tom Bombadil (poetry)
The War of the Jewels
Morgoth's Ring
And of course, The Hobbit... :)

I have the desktops and a bunch of other stuff... AIM icons, for example. I also (top this ;)) have and started a .. let's see, I think it's about 1.2mb of text - a "curriculum" on Quenya, one of the elven languages. I can pronounce most of it now (that was lesson 1, and about 35 pages long, printed....), but haven't had time to get into the grammar yet....

As for the Really Hot Actor Orlando Bloom, who cares about the actor ;) He did make a good Legolas though... :)

oh, i didn't mean the invented lang and God, i mean the storyline and the general things and beings (elves, dwarf) are quite frequently seen in typical fantasy novels.
Have u read Raymond E. Feist and Robert Jordan's books? they're fantany and got everything in it, by that i mean: adventure, magic, wizards, little nobody who becomes a hero, a vast amount of time spent in travelling (that's essential) etc.
Those books don't acknowledge the God of Christianity, but the plots're awesome, they're so huge in scale that it's like u're in another world (just like Midden Earth).

No, I haven't read any other fantasy ... however, I did think Tolkien came before most of the other fantasy writers :)

I do think that Tolkien just ... did it better. For one thing, he's a lot more popular ... and he really gets into detail, not sure how the others are.

Gandalf ... was not a man, nor was he old :) He was a Maia.... basically, he is the same as Sauron - not evil, of course, but the same type of being. Sorta a lesser angel, so to speak...

I also am not sure how they made their stories - Tolkien actaulyl wrote the Silmarillion before LOTR. He like .... wrote his world ;)

Tolkien, I *think* ... or thought .... started the elves dwarevs thing, or at least er, propgated it ;) Also, Tolkien wrote the history of his world before he wrote the story. The Silmarillion came before The Hobbit :)

I'm biased to Tolkien though... ;)
