That would be the Scouring of the Shire (and really anything past that point -- I would not be at all surprised to see the movie end with the equivalent of the "Steward and the King" chapter, or alternatively, jump directly from "Steward and the King" to "Grey Havens" with maybe a 1-minute montage showing the hobbits travelling back to the Shire.)

So that's about 5 chapters cut out of RotK, which should be enough space to insert the 6 chapters they did not get to in TT.

I'm not sure it would mean as much because they cut so much of the Shire stuff at the beginning (and the character development for Merry and Pippin).

I think she meant that it was in the *book* RotK.

I was under the impression that Peter Jackson had confirmed that the Scouring of the Shire would not be in the movies because he felt it was an anticlimax (which is true according to standard movie pacing -- movies almost always have their climaxes only a few minutes away from the ending, especially action-oriented movies.)

Here's a scary fact for all of you.

I thought the first time I heard a clip of "Gollum's Song" I would never like it. I would buy the soundtrack with it on it, listen to it if I had to, but would prefer to skip it and not listen to it.

I fought my way opening day to sit through the credits and the song...because it's just such a freaky song. I can't explain it.

But now...I think it's such a cool song!! And so emotional! ACK!

I disagree, but ONLY because they setup the little romance between Sam and Rosie Cotton. I almost guarantee you'll see some Shire scenes at the end of RotK. If there had been no Rosie in FotR, I would agree. :)

Okay LOTR fans....I got a question! :)

You know in Fellowship of the Ring, when the Fellowship gets to Moria and Gandalf is trying to open the doors. Frodo says, "What's the elvish word for 'friend'?" as he figures out the riddle to open the door.

I thought the elves and dwarves didn't get along.

So why would the password be in elvish?

Or did I mishear or miss something? :)
