Hello, I am looking to live in a Christian intentional community, where expenses are shared and it's like a big family. I'm located in the northeast US. Can anyone recommend any communities that fit this description near me? Or recommend how I can find out more about them? I found a few on ic.org but would like to find a lot more...

Hi Backingtown

Just to look at you picture (avatar) I came to conclusion that you may be not the right material for such enterprise.

But I can give you a couple of suggestions.

There are three definite groups who live together and share their resources.

First, Communist, they use to form their society on the basis of work together and share together their resources, but lately they become more capitalistic in their nature. Today, probably North Korea would be a best option of them all, but I am not sure about their religion.

Second, you can join a “flower generation.” They still exist in some parts of US, and some of them are Christian based groups.

Same thing you also can find in Europe. If I remember right, in Denmark, Copenhagen, a place called “Christiana,” not necessary Christian based community, but they live as squatters and share some of their goods.

Third group is kibbutz in Israel. Most of them agricultural communities and they are ideal places for people who are not ambitious and willing to work and share their resources. It is very secure life style, no worries, but you have to contribute your portion of your work.

I am not sure if any such kibbutz Christian oriented, but they are ideal little communist societies where the work and all the resources share equally among all their members, and it looks to me that they are quite happy and have all things they need without any unnecessary excess.

Good luck
