Welcome to the forum! Do you know anyone that already attends a nearby church? If so, let them know you are interested in experiencing it. All of the denominations can be confusing. They have similar core beliefs, but with differences in worship style.

Reading the Bible is very important, but it doesn't have to be intimidating. A good study Bible can provide a lot of the background and explanations that help in understating the more obscure portions. Another suggestion would be to try some online daily devotionals. They provide passages from the Bible and apply it to our lives today. There are plenty of free ones if you Google "devotionals".

you do realize you can get right with God right where your at, going to a church is a great idea, but you don't have to go anywhere to get right with God, you just need to have a broken heart before God, seeing a need for a Savior, and understanding that you have sinned and need forgiveness

you don't need any special prayer to follow just start talking to Him and tell Him that you are sorry for your sins and need to be forgiven, believe that Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for your sins and ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit so that you will have a new spirit and a new life

Welcome to CF! When it comes to the bible it's quality over quanity. Take your time and ask questions. A lot of us here at CF are interdenominational and will try to give you an unbiased opinion concerning different denominations. Take care. God bless.

Dear jp82. Jesus gave us a good start in Matthew 22, verses 35-40:
" The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: Love thy neighbour as thyself. ( neighbour: all we know and all we meet, friends and not friends)
We start by treating people as we would love to be treated, always with kindness and friendly words, helping hands (where needed) and always be a good neighbour. You will find that people treat you the same, and your life will never be lonely. God will see your efforts and God will approve and bless you. God will also know that you Love God, because you are following his Commandments to Love and Care.
Jesus will give you His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower you with His Love, also. Jesus told us to " to ask and ye will receive, then we thank God and share all Love and Joy with our neighbour; we keep asking and thanking God, and sharing all Love and Joy with all around us. We might stumble and forget at times, but then we get up, ask God to forgive us, and carry on Loving and Caring. ( Matthew 7, verses 7-10)
God is Love, jp, and God wants loving children/sons and daughters. Jesus will
always help and guide us, in fact: JESUS IS THE WAY. Everything we say or do, will be from Love and Compassion, and Jesus our Saviour, will lead you to go the right way. I say this with love. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ. P.S. To Love God and Love your neighbour, on those two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

What's your ideas about the Christian faith JP?

Do your subscribe to any particular doctrines or beliefs about Christianity?

What would you like to find in a church?

There are many different types of Christian paths. As I get older I'm becoming more open to the fact this is a good thing, although I'm personally quite conservative.

Tell us some of your ideas and perhaps we can recommend a suitable path.

Any of the mainstream protestant churches should be able to fulfill your interests. Whether it's an Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, United Church of Christ, or Southern Baptist, it should be helpful to you.

However, there are some denominations in what is officially called the radical sector which claim that they, and they alone, are the path to salvation. In each and every case where I have had their people approach me, it has soon become obvious that their true agenda had nothing whatsoever to do with spiritual enlightenment. Instead, it had to do with an overwhelming desire to have power and authority over others. Avoid these denominations.
