  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

have you checked out the options in parallel bibles. that is where they have more than one version side by side so you can compare different versions side by side, verse by verse without turning pages.
I have a bible that has eight translations in one bible. The message bible is my favorite by the way.
as far as study bibles, there are lots out there. maybe hundreds.

 Please don't rush off to the bookstore without asking them about the Aramaic Peshitta! This is my Bible of choice. Peshitta means simple...but it actually means clearer to me! I have literally worn out two of them. A comparison to check would be John 3:36 -

"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; and he who does not obey (KJV:believe) the Son..."

Aramaic resembles the Hebrew, and jots and tittles can be misplaced, causing errors. "Some Aramaic words are written and pronounced alike, but their meaning differs according to the context. In other cases the differences are indicated by dots which alter the pronunciation. In yet other instances, if the translator does not speak the language from which he translates the meaning and usage of some words must be left to his knowledge and judgment." This quotation is from the introduction to the Peshitta.

This is very worth checking out...but sometimes difficult to find.

I know you're not looking for a study Bible with lots of extras, but I love The Amplified Bible. I study KJV, but love looking up scriptures in the Amplified. It gives synonyms, more in-depth meanings, etc to individual words within a scripture. It gives amazing insight. A single verse may end up being 3 times longer than the 'original'. Now, I would never use it alone, but LOVE it as a help.
