  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm looking for suggestions on a really good study bible for myself. I mean a bible who's explanatory material was written and edited by people who really seem to believe that the Bibls is God's inerrant word.

I bought 'The Catholic Bible: Personal Study Edition (New American Bible)' from Oxford University Press, but have found too many places in the study guides where the 'bible experts' talk about all the 'errors' and 'historical inaccuracies' in the Bible. I, a first-time reader, seem to believe more in the accuracy of the Bible than these 'experts' do.

Any suggestions?

forget study Bibles - they are a distraction, imho. Just use a good concordance to look up Hebrew and Greek words. If you use the word search, you can find any verse that pertains to a subject and let the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth - IN HIS WORD.

As Jesus said: IF you stay in My Word, you shall have the truth and the truth shall set you free.

So you want a Study Bible that fits what you want it to say?

That's...contradictory to what you should do.

I bought 'The Catholic Bible: Personal Study Edition (New American Bible)' from Oxford University Press, but have found too many places in the study guides where the 'bible experts' talk about all the 'errors' and 'historical inaccuracies' in the Bible.

They are right; there are historical inaccuracies. Then again, it doesn't bother me.

I, a first-time reader, seem to believe more in the accuracy of the Bible than these 'experts' do.

So you trust your own self-admitted inexperience more than those who've studied the Bible for probably 20+ years?

My suggestion is to forgo the entire Bible and read St. Augustine of Hippo's On Christian Teaching. It is an excellent resource written by one of Christianity's greatest experts of the Bible and a doctor of the Church. It is not long and worth 10,000x its weight.

Then, read the Bible.

new scofield bible...

Why suggest a Study Bible that promotes a theology only 150 years old and whose direct roots were condemned in the 2nd and 3rd Ecumenical Councils?

DISPENSATIONS ARE NAMED IN EPHESIANS

Nope. Otherwise, they would have been taught by the Fathers.

ignore them if you must but you will miss the depth length and height of the bible

I shall ignore all Chiliasm as it was condemned, thank you.

It is NOT Apostolic. If it was so important, it would have been taught. It was not. Instead, it didn't crop up until the defrocked and excommunicated Darby appeared.

what is chiliasm?

What Dispensationalism is a form of. It was condemed by the 2nd and 3rd Ecumenical Councils as being against the Creed.

From Finland.

There are so many good study bibles, but it really depends what you are looking for. There is the Orthodox Study Bible with KJV, but the study notes are from an Orthodox perspective...then you have The Reformed Study Bible with notes from a Reformed view. So the list goes on including those that are mentioned in above previous posts.

In Him, david.

Fallacy of Equivocation.

In addition, your interpretation is only as old as Darby. It is therefore not Apostolic. Since it agrees with something condemned by Ecumenical Council, neither then is it orthodox or even Christian.

So some men denied the greek orginal word... oh well

No, some people use eisegesis to prop their unorthodox theology upon a Greek word that meant something totally different.

Like I said: Fallacy of Equivocation.
