Forgive me if there has been a thread on this already, but anyone have any good info on this?

If you have super clean glass containers (that are wrapped in a super awesome insulation that would not break in an Earthquake), then I would go with glass containers (if you can afford it).

https://www.skilledsurvival.com/water-storage/

If you are only looking for an affordable 5 year storage of water (that you would use the supply and then replenish with buying new containers every 5 years), then you can buy them on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Water-Storage-System-Shelf-Gallon/dp/B00FM1F4Y4/

Just make sure you mark an expiration date on it clearly so you don't get potentially sick for drinking it past the expiration date. Also, make sure you throw away your old 5 year containers and get new ones.

What about an immediate supply for a bug out bag?

What about an immediate supply for a bug out bag?

Bug out bags generally last for only 72 hours. Granted, there are bug out bags (backpacks) that can last longer than this. If you are looking to only take a small water supply by foot or in your car, then you can simply use bottled water that you have in a fridge that you regularly use. If you are looking to ration the supply longer, then use glass containers stored in a cool place that you regularly use. Just make sure you buy a protective covering for the glass containers to help prevent them from breaking when you travel. Glass containers of water will last indefinitely (if the containers are clean). The trick is to make sure you insulate the containers on the outside so they do not break. Well, I suppose you can have a specialist make bullet proof glass bottles for you. But then that would probably be really expensive, not to mention, they would be heavier to carry.

Just a note of my thinking... the canned water supplied by breweries after a disaster expire in 6 months (and you wouldn't want to drink it believe me!)

I would surely buy food-grade storage containers for longer term storage. Commercially bottled water in bpa-free plastic has an expiry of just over a year I think?

But I would suppose that even the stored water, after expiration, could be sanitized with the "bleach drops" and made drinkable....at least safe even if not tasty?

Currently, I am on the fence when it comes to stockpiling for an End Times scenario. I believe in a Pre-Trib Rapture and yet, I also believe we can potentially miss out on the Rapture if we do not prepare ourselves (i.e. we are not living entirely holy unto the Lord's standards like He desires). My gut tells me that it is okay to prepare for small natural disasters that last for a week or two so as to help your family and your community, but to do so more than that is placing your trust in your own wealth and not in God. But each person must pray, search the Scriptures, and come to their own conclusion. I would say, focus on loving your neighbor and not just you and your family during such a crisis. Give to those who don't have it in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Another thought... if you are staying in one spot and not moving no matter what occurs... why not use rain barrels as cisterns? You will still want to use filters since rain cleanses the air...and the chem trail smoke has the strontium, barium, aluminum, arsenic etc in them... in addition to the other pollutants...

I'm no expert on this, but I didn't think water went "bad". If it is kept from any sort of contamination, why wouldn't it last indefinitely? So any container that didn't impart chemicals or bacteria, etc. should be fine?

Get a 12 ft diameter, 3 ft high swimming pool from Wal Mart or Amazon. Holds over 1000 gallons. Get the kind that has sturdy sides, not the inflatable. Get a cover for it. Tell the kids they cannot swim in this one. Get them their own. Fill it with city water if you have it. Have it positioned so you can direct roof run-off into it if ever needed. Use the filter. Get a larger one if you want. If possible get a rubber pond liner for added integrity. Build a sturdy structure around it. Not the best.. but better than thirsting to death or drinking branch water of questionable origin (could be a dead cow in the water upstream!). Better than stinking all the time. Filter and Boil all water you want to cook with or drink. Especially after a Stuff hits the fan scenario.
Just thoughts.

Treated water in say, glass containers would probably be ok to drink over time, but it won't taste good.
Otherwise, contamination is what makes water go "bad".

Yea, not just the dead cow upstream but even a cattle crossing. It used to be you had to let the water flow a certain distance (miles?) to clarify itself but I don't even trust that with farm runoffs and chemical spraying of our atmosphere. :(

Get yourself a "sawyer mini" water filter (approx $20 on Amazon or at WalMart). Probably the best filter to come out for hikers in the last few years. There is also a similar product called "LifeStraw". Either one will filter out almost any germ. I used more expensive filters when hiking in the wilderness and they work great.

The thing about the two filters mentioned above is that they are cheap, filter out bacteria well, are highly portable, and easy to use. On my next hike, I am buying a Sawyer mini for each member of our party.

The Sawyer Mini also attaches to a standard size water bottle, but also comes with a pouch that attaches to the filter. All this makes it super convenient.

I would also suggest you buy yourself a container of "pool shock". It is sodium hypochlorite crystals. This is the base ingredient for bleach. Here is the CDC instructions on sanitizing drinking water with bleach ( https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/pdf/emergency/09_202278-B_Make_Water_Safe_Flyer_508.pdf ). Sodium Hypochlorite will last a very long time (where bleach loses its effectiveness at 6-9 months). You can also look up how to make your own bleach mixture using sodium hypochlorite.

But actually, I did say to the Lord He can take me when He think it is time and I have gone through so much hardships already so I believe that maybe He really need me here by some reason. But preparing is of course good, still I think one should try to make an impact more globally too or nationally. But remember the heart is where the choices are done.

Don't forget that most every household will have a hot water heater that has at least 30 gallons or more of drinkable H20 and also the toilet tanks that haven't been used or flushed will be full of water.

Well that is good to keep in mind, but also those can be needed when it gets - 35degrees celsius cold, because to my experience sleeping in a house or even a few rooms without using any electricity and only using the open firestove and wood as a source of heating lasts about three days before the house is so warm that one actually can take off the winterjacket and trousers for longer periods without freezing. We use to heat up grandparents house in the middle of the winter, brrrr and sometimes sleep there. It is almost as cold as outdoors without electricity. So be careful of not using the water in the waterelement unless You have proper winterclothes or it is warm. Toiletwater should of course be cleaned properly ( carbonfilter if one has it ) or a sand and mossfilter and paper if one has nothing else and cooked I believe, but I have noticed cats drink it and they have not died yet.

If one has to use very little water and it is cold, the best thing is to build an Snowhouse to shield from weather and wind and then a finnish sauna. One can reuse the water in the sauna and first wash the hair in a steelbucket that has been standing on the oven to be heated. Every woman can wash their hair then they put in conditioner and wash their bodies, and rinse. But leave the conditioner in. Go out to chill or take on a swimsuit and a cap and shoes and go in any icy water to get the blood pumping faster. That will help the body fight against flue. Later Rince conditioner. Tap in new water. Put it on the saunaoven to get heated for the men. Dry themselves, get dressed. Then it is the mens time. One can also have a colder bucket of water to mix hot snd cold water in or one can make a hole in the ice and bring up sea or lake water here because it is not so salt, it is often brackish and sometimes it is so clean that it taste like springwater if it is in a lake or river. Then it is the mens time to use the sauna. One should not pour shampoowater in the sea or lake but on the ground in the snow or dirt because we are careful to keep a clean water as possible, then it hopefully gets a bit naturally filtered before it comes back to the sea.
