Met Police are confirming it as a terrorist incident.

As it stands they believe the explosive vest was a fake, but they're very sorry but they're leaving the cordons up while they search the surrounding area. Just to be on the safe side.

What's funny/sad/unsurprising/depressing is the assembled twitterati using what they know (as little as the rest of us) as a one-size-beats-all stick against whoever opposes their worldview no matter how bizarre it is.
But then twitter really is the electronic version of vCJD.

It might help to get some proper feedback as to why they think this is a terror incident and not just some psycho on a killing spree. The vest is usually the mark of an Islamist. But this looks like a lone wolf incident rather than the work of a cell.

He was out on license from prison, having been convicted of terror offenses.

Apparently, four of the people grappling with him were also convicted criminals, one of whom is a murderer, ironically.

I read that he was out on licence and that sounds like a mistake.

Just found a source for your second statement.

London Bridge bystander who helped pin down attacker is convicted murderer on day release

But even James Ford handled his own free day far better than the man he protected the public from. Using it to save lives not end them. Also it does not detract from his courage or example in fact now we know his story it makes even more remarkable.

Clearly law and order is going to be the focus this week, with the Tories promising ever more draconian measures, whilst labour points out the past 9 years of Tory cuts to the police, the courts, and prisons.

Neither approach is a solution in this case. The 2 people who died were apparently attending the learning together programme which worked in the case of James Ford but did not in the case of the attacker.

There is no redemption for Jihaddi Muslims from a secular programme is the essential naivety here that cost these people their lives.

The justice system does not understand when to be draconian and when to offer forgiveness cause it does not understand religious motivations anymore
