CNN broadcast the interview of an eyewitness, barrister Angelo Power, by ITN reporter Chris Choi. Mr Power's reaction is worth noting:
POWER: All I can say is, whoever is responsible for it, I take pity on them.
CHOI: Pity?

you're right, the death toll will likely be higher, but rumours don't help anyone - it's better to stick to official figures, the unofficial ones are always much greater than they should be - let's pray the number stays small

Yes, I saw his interview. He was so shaken. One hospital has 95 patients from the blasts, 7 of whom are critical.

As I was listening to the reports on tv, winamp played the Simon and Garfunkel song The Sounds of Silence twice... "And the sign said the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls"... it was... terribly apt.
