  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hello, I've been doing some studying on logic and critical thinking. I've decided instead of buying a bunch of books, I'd just buy a college text book. I have no idea of what to look for, though. Could anyone please recommend a textbook? Of course, it'd need to cover formal and informal logic and critical thinking. Thanks.

A classic text on this is "Come Let Us Reason: An Introduction to Logical Thinking" by Norman L Geisler and Ronald M Brooks. ISBN is 0801038367. It's not a "textbook" per se but it is still not easy reading, at least for someone like me who had no formal training in philosophy/logic in university. It's also available on the Norman L Geisler CD with a whole bunch of his other other books if you don't mind reading it as an ebook, Christianbooks.com has it for pretty cheap considering how many books you get on one CD:

Edit: Just noticed your atheist icon, this book is written from a Christian perspective so it probably wouldn't be appropriate for you, sorry I didn't notice that at first.
