I'm sorry to tell you that you get it all confused. A system where the son does not pay the sin of the father is a system without inheritance, that is, you wouldn't inherit a genetic material from your parents, when they die you would not inherit their wealth, etc...in such system reproduction would be impossible, each subsequent generation would have to be created, no reproduction, no descendants. We have the angel as examples. Only the ones who sin are corrupted. The rest are as sinless as they were created.

This does not follow at all. There is nothing in genetic or financial inheritance which makes spiritual inheritance a necessity. And of course, all of this ignores a crucial aspect:

When God made us, he didn't contain us but he liberated and then he set boundaries. We crossed the line, we pay the price. Simple.

Right. And the price for a finite misdeed is infinite torture. That is a sadistic, unreasonable punishment. Neither a loving nor a just god would institute such a system.

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Why did my umberella break? Hint: morality is - in part at least - a self and/or social protection device, just like a umberella against the "storms and of existence" be they big or small.

So, sometimes the storms are too strong, sometimes people dont know what an umberella is for, and sometimes they know but decide upon trying other more malign uses.

Why do bad things happen to good people?

I believe it's more of a time and chance thing. I think there is some kind of scripture for that, too? I think bad things happen to good people, good things happen to good people, good things happen to bad people, bad things happen to bad people. I think to say definitely that something bad happened because of what someone did even though that could be a possibility for those that believe in God, I would think they would leave it to Him to judge if that was the reason something bad happened or if it was just time and chance. Not to debate this but it's just what I believe :)

What's a "bad thing" and what's a "good person"?

I would prefer to restate your question as: "Why do things happen to people?"

Phrased this way, it is a silly question.

The use of the words "good" and "bad" make the question seem profound. Most events in our lives are amoral (earthquakes, lottery winnings, disease, etc). Only people can act good or bad because good/bad are human concepts. Events can not be labeled morally good or morally bad in my opinion.

Hi Davinci,

I'll resort to a short and spontaneous answer: These kinds of things happen because this life, and our quality of life, is not the final, or end all, for human existence and its actual, divine purpose; God has additional things in store for us. [Note: I do realize that we can question what we mean by "good people," but my answer above is meant to be an overarching, general approach to this topic.]

Peace

Christ suffered why shouldn't we?

"Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." Romans 8:17

"But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed." 1 Peter 4:13

"For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ." 2 Corinthians 1:5

i been wondering this my whole life. the official christian answer since 2007 is because of free will. god loves us so much that he gave us free will, and because of it lot of times bad things happen to us. god could have stopped hitler from killing people but he loves hitler too and didn't want to infringe his free will. but we are so lucky because all the suffering in the world is much better than being puppets on a string.

as i get older it seems like its all garbage. why did he harden pharaohs heart? because after 2007 the new testament became primary focus and god became different and...free will. but you gotta believe what you can to cope through life. even if there is no god or heaven, if beliefs help you get through life is that a bad thing? if there is no god or heaven and we just stop existing after we die, then we won't be disappointed anyways.

thing is though its tough to fool people these days and even harder to fool yourself. i tell myself im not alone and ill be with my angel girlfriend after i die, but when im crying at night all alone, i just want to get through this life.

after all these years we been together and all the bad stuff i have gone through she couldn't even come ONCE and let me see her and let me know that she is here for me and we will be together. i guess all gods and celestial beings that we look to for hope have a fetish of having us rely 100% blindly on faith. even the most conservative christians have bs meters and deep down i know its all 100% bs and i should just kill myself right now, but its scary to kill yourself believe it or not, and either way i am stuck until i can finally die.

Perhaps God will answer the question.

10 "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them."

Ecclesiastes 9:10-12

3 random bible verses that totally side stepped the question!! Sorry I'm not trying to be a jerk but its things like these that make it even harder for me to believe because its literally putting your fingers in your ears and screaming nanannanananan.

I became a Christian to find truth and peace. And only found false hopes and condescending advice. Nowadays I have my own beliefs to keep myself together, but nothing seems true anymore I just want to disappear. :(

Don't do that man! If you are truly looking for God, he will reveal himself to you. Read the bible every day and pray before and after. This site is full of heretics. You only find a bunch of people with bad hermeneutics who are trying to flex their muscles of ignorance. I don't proclaim to know but I think before I talk.

The type of reasoning I see in here deserve a face palm. They're very disjointed. I'm not a philosopher but at least I know a bit mathematics and biology. I don't mean to be a reasonable person but at least I made the effort.

Apostle Paul tells us to be careful when reasoning with those weak in faith for we might destroy their faith. Nowadays, Christians take pleasure in just doing that

Stay strong in the faith. Mine has been shaken, trod upon, bruised, battered,... Only one thing that keep it going, the Word of God.

Why do bad things happen to good people?...

Probably because the agents--humans, non-human animals, geological processes, etc.--that do bad things are not discriminating. Either such agents act randomly and good people are in the wrong place at the wrong time, or they pick the easiest target.

Bad people can be in the wrong place at the wrong time or be the easiest target. But so can good people.
