Living Avatar Problems

I've been trying to make a living avatar for myself, but it keeps freezing up. However, one time I had it relatively finished (I couldn't get my shadow to work) and this showed up.

Error: living_avatars/avatars/ folder needs CHMOD of 777

I have no idea what this means. I also noticed that a nearly invisible beard keeps showing up when I start editing. I don't know if this is a real problem or not, though. I just tried covering it up.

CHMOD of 777 means that the PHP program can't save your new Avatar (It's like the write protect tab on old Floppy Drives)

Well, I got it to work, but I still can't add my 5 O' Clock Shadow. When I try, it screws up the page so that none of the buttons work. I don't really care one way or another, but I thought you should know.
