I didn't watch secular films for over two years. The first film I watched recently was The Lord of the Rings. I want to read the books but I haven't bought them yet. I remembered this quote and then checked it was in the books too:

J.R.R. Tolkien – The Fellowship of The Ring

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

The first quote is arguably the best opening line of any novel.
The second is perhaps the best two word rejoinder to be found in any play.
The last, the final lines of the novel, is surely the best ever advance justification for sequels, although Clarke maintained he had no such plans at the time.

Oh, my goodness. I am one of the biggest LOTR fans you will ever find in the world. If you ever want to talk LOTR stuff, just PM me!

The movies kept some of the good quotes, but missed many others. And that is a wonderful one that you chose. That exchange between Gandalf and Frodo impacted me deeply when I first read the books myself, around 12 years of age.
