So I'm really clueless as to why nothing is working for me for this program.

Anyone out there use LimeWire for downloading stuff? Cause I just downloaded it at my roomate's suggestion and it's not working. I think it's my firewall but I'm not sure.

I keep getting a message that says that Lime Wire has not established a connection to the internet. But I AM connected to the internet...

I have a laptop that is connected to an ethernet system at my University if that helps any.

I went into my firewall program and unblocked the Gutnella port (I think), but it still won't work.

LimeWire isn't blocked by the firewall now, at least that's what it says, but I can't do searches or download.

And to those that use LimeWire, you know those connection bars down at the bottom of the program? They are all red except one and I think that means I'm not connected.

I'm running LimeWire now because according to this girl down the hall from me, I have to let it run for a while until I get a connection. Is that true? Or is there any other way that I can get a connection faster?

I really like LimeWire but I don't know why it's not connecting. I think I opened up the ports but I'm not sure. (I'm not THAT computer savy)

Does anyone know anything that I am missing in order to make LimeWire work? My roomates' LimeWire works great for her and she gets a full connection. So I don't know why it's not working for me. Any ideas? Do I just have to wait for connection?

It most likely has to do with a University-wide block on P2P programs. Other than that, what firewall are you using? You have to make sure you let javaw.exe have access, because that's a dependency. And yes, having all (or all but one) red bars mean you're not connected. It generally doesn't take very long to connect, though, although like I said, it could be due to a University-wide blocking mechanism.

It's a firewall from McAfee. The University requires that we use this program otherwise we are not allowed onto the network.

It seems to be working fine now. Don't know what I did though.

The thing is, I don't get very many results for things. I found out that my client is "a leaf node shielded by an Ultrapeer." Because of that I don't get very many search results. I think I have to have a fast connection to be an Ultrapeer but I'm not sure.

Is there a way I can not be a leaf node shielded by an Ultrapeer?

I dont use it. (kidding of course). isnt that stuff illegal? I guess it depends on what you're downloading right? Hmmm, whats the deal. are p2p apps legal or not? depends on who you ask too I guess? The music industry don't like them

many schools now block (in whatever way they do this. i'm no techno geek so I can't exactly say) P2P sharing because it overloads their servers, causes crashes, and can bring viruses into the campus-wide network which could cause invevitable widespread damage and threat to other users and their machines.

I recommend saving your change and buying top quality mp3 tracks from iTunes or WalMart's music store at a buck-a-pop. Make a list of the music you really want and thenbuy it legally. Don't put your computer, your network, or yourself at risk by going illegal. If you're responsible and righteous with the little things, it's a witness to how responsible and righteous you'll be with the big things.

1. mcafee virus protection/firewall sucks
2. you get viruses from p2p programs
3. not good
