Link? Summary of the film?
In Prayers for Bobby, Mary Griffith is a devout Christian who raises her children with the conservative teachings of the Presbyterian Church. However, when her son Bobby confides to his older brother he may be gay, life changes for the entire family after Mary learns about his secret. While Bobby's father and siblings slowly come to terms with his homosexuality, Mary believes God can cure him of what she considers his "sin" and persuades Bobby to pray harder and seek solace in church activities in hopes of changing him. Desperate for his mother's approval, Bobby does what is asked of him, but through it all, the church's apparent disapproval of homosexuality causes him to grow increasingly withdrawn and depressed.
Guilty over the pain he is causing his mother, Bobby moves away, yet hopes that some day she will accept him. His subsequent depression and self-loathing intensifies as he blames himself for not being the "perfect" son, and he is driven to suicide. Faced with their tragedy, Mary begins to question her faith when she receives no answers from her pastor concerning her devastating loss. Through her long and emotional journey, Mary slowly reaches out to the gay community and discovers unexpected support from a very unlikely source. She becomes an advocate for gay rights and eventually gives a speech in a court addressing a "gay day". She finally comes to terms with her son's death and helps lesbian and gay children with their sexual problems. [1]

Zaac - are you saying that you disapprove of the mother's request to try to "cure" her son, and the church's condemnation?

Yep. You don't "cure" somebody of an attraction. And the "cure" that people get for homosexual fornication is the same as people get for heterosexual fornication: submission to Jesus Christ.

A person has to be willing to lay down his same sex desires and follow Christ completely just as we are supposed to do with ALL sin.

So a person may not be "cured" but they can CHOOSE to stop sinning.

This is a good account from someone who went through religious and therapy sessions, and his conclusion

I never understood that. If you're not attracted to the opposite sex, what will marrying the opposite sex do if you're not attracted ? Makes for a miserable person and someone who is then stuck in a marriage with someone they probably don't love.

Perhaps folks should start letting Jesus and submission to Him be at the forefront of any such "therapies" instead of forcing the opposite sex on folks.

it's almost like folks are saying "we dont want you to be attracted to the same sex, but we'll do whatever we can to make you lust after the opposite sex if that's what it takes to make you not gay."

Awful movie. Awful to see a mother treat her child that way. And even more awful to see the "church" use the same old, tired, errant "interpretation" cop out for sin.

:(

Gay propaganda. Same old tired message. Why the need for a new version from the channel dedicated to drama of the hysterical kind?

How many gays have died from AIDS? All of those people were someones child.

How about a movie about having hundreds of sex partners?

Etc., etc., etc..

Yeah…those true stories just reek of propaganda

How many gays have died from AIDS? All of those people were someones child.

Total estimated death from AIDS form 1981 to 2007 was 25 million. Of course all most all of these people were heterosexuals. Ref World Health Organization

How about a movie about having hundreds of sex partners?

Etc., etc., etc..

Have they made a movie about Charlie Sheen? He’s slept with over 5000 women.

How about a movie about Gene Simmons (lead singer of Kiss)? he has sex with over 4,500 women

There must be a movie about Julio Iglasias…he’s had sex with 3000+ women

Englebert Humperdink? also 3000+ women

Jack Nicklson has been in a lot of movies…don’t know of a movie about him. But still he’s had sex with over 2000 women

Magic Johnson? 1,000 women. And one of them gave him HIV too

There are a couple documentary movies featuring Bill Wyman (Bass guitarist of the Rolling Stones) “Shine a Light” he’s had sex with over a thousand women

If we just let gays marry, then it wouldn't be fornication, and all would be well.

- no, I'm not trying to de-rail the thread. Just saying that instead of trying to impose rules on society based strictly on one's religious beliefs, perhaps we could take a reasoned look at these issues. (see the 3800+ posts still looking for valid non-religious reasons for opposing gay marriage thread). If we want what's best for law-abiding citizens, it seems we should publicly treat eachother a little better, and with a lot more equality.

If every state in the nation voted tomorrow that gays could marry, Christians would still be called to preach that sex between same-sex people is fornication. God defined marriage when he purposed that a man leave his father and mother and be united to his WIFE, and they will become one flesh. Gen. 2:24

Apparently there are enough people who still believe that "Thus Sayeth the Lord" is enough.:)

Wonder how many of those heterosexuals were women who contracted the disease from men who were having sex with other men?

That's skewed data. You can probably find extremes in heterosexuals and homosexuals. For sure there are just as many heterosexuals as homosexuals who are mass fornicators.

According to the information gathered by the study at http://theroadtoemmaus.org/RdLb/22SxSo/PnSx/HSx/MarrHoVsHet.htm, there are drastic differences between heterosexual marriages and homosexual relationships in terms of
- relationship duration
- monogamy vs. promiscuity
- relationship commitment
- number of children being raised
- health risks
- rates of intimate partner violence

Married couples

· A nationally representative survey of 884 men and 1,288 women published in the Journal of Sex Research found that 77 percent of married men and 88 percent of married women had remained faithful to their marriage vows.[9]

· A 1997 national survey appearing in The Social Organization of Sexuality: Sexual Practices in the United States found that 75 percent of husbands and 85 percent of wives never had sexual relations outside of marriage.[10]

· A telephone survey conducted for Parade magazine of 1,049 adults selected to represent the demographic characteristics of the United States found that 81 percent of married men and 85 percent of married women reported that they had never violated their marriage vows.[11]

Male Homosexuals

Research indicates that the average male homosexual has hundreds of sex partners in his lifetime:

· The Dutch study of partnered homosexuals, which was published in the journal AIDS, found that men with a steady partner had an average of eight sexual partners per year.[12]

· Bell and Weinberg, in their classic study of male and female homosexuality, found that 43 percent of white male homosexuals had sex with 500 or more partners, with 28 percent having one thousand or more sex partners.[13]

· In their study of the sexual profiles of 2,583 older homosexuals published in the Journal of Sex Research, Paul Van de Ven et al. found that "the modal range for number of sexual partners ever [of homosexuals] was 101-500." In addition, 10.2 percent to 15.7 percent had between 501 and 1,000 partners. A further 10.2 percent to 15.7 percent reported having had more than one thousand lifetime sexual partners.[14]

· A survey conducted by the homosexual magazine Genre found that 24 percent of the respondents said they had had more than one hundred sexual partners in their lifetime. The magazine noted that several respondents suggested including a category of those who had more than one thousand sexual partners.

Sorry, this is a lie that keeps being perpetuated by anti-gay websites and organizations; the truth is that the referenced "study" about gay relationships is not a study, rather it was a model created to examine how HIV might be spread in the homosexual community. From the abstract, "A mathematical model describing HIV transmission among homosexual men was developed. In the model, men are involved in both steady and casual partnerships." In other words, this wasn't based on any actual statistics, they did not do a study on whether gay men in relationships cheat -- rather they created a computer model to test some ideas about how HIV spreads, in particular if HIV was more likely to spread through casual sex or between men in committed relationships. The reason they created such a high level of cheating was to help test some of their theories -- again, it has nothing to do with real gays nor does it represent gay relationships in real life.

The fact that this continues to be used as "evidence" that gays in committed relationships cheat shows the basic dishonesty of many ex-gay groups, which continues to misuse studies or use "studies" that are known to be fraudulent (such as the "studies" conducted by Paul Cameron and his Family Reaserch Institute -- an institute where he and his son are the only "researchers").

And there are Christians who still believe that interracial marriage is not “true” marriage. Does their belief make interracial couples not married? No it doesn’t

Apparently there are enough people who still believe that "Thus Sayeth the Lord" is enough.:)
Thus sayith the lord has been used to defend racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, ageism, genocide and all sorts of horrors.

Claiming God is on your side and agrees with one’s personal interoperation of the bible doesn’t make it so

Very few. Most women who contract Aids are African women infected by purely heterosexual men. Sorry to disappoint you, but world-wide, Aids is not a gay disease.
