  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

there's the rest of the life stages forum, along with the rest of the site, for singles to discuss other things than their angst about being single... and this particular forum is solely for that angst, worry, fear of being a spinster/bachelor.

or it would certainly seem that way.

I've somehow always known I'd be alone. I accepted that fact a long time ago, and it doesn't bother me one bit. Actually after recent events, I've realised that I really don't want a mate. I have a natural distrust of people, and I don't think I'd be able to trust a woman enough to give myself to her completely.

maybe the posts of singles that aren't concerned about "marriage, dating, future loves etc" are in the young adults forum?
Not all singles are young adults. Plenty of people remain single past the young adult stage.

It does seem that way, although that's not what the board description says. Which is why I started this thread. I think that "angst, worry, fear of being a spinster/bachelor" is a stereotype of single people that isn't necessarily true. So, let's continue with the discussion.

Someone brought up the topic of vehicles. For those of you with vehicles, what kind do you have now and what would your dream vehicle be? (Yes, bicycles are vehicles :) ) I currently have an old rusty car from the early 80's. It uses a lot of gas, but it runs well and must have been well built from the start to still be running :) My dream vehicle would be a half-ton Chevy truck with 4 wheel drive and a regular cab and box. V8 engine, CD player, green or teal blue :)

I have 1993 5.0 Mustang. 300 hp 5 on the floor and it's red. Really alot of fun even with the price of gas going thourgh the roof. Every day car is little two door Explorer. I use to race bicycles about twenty so years ago so I kept my training bike, which was an old racing bike. It was made by Trek 531 reynolds tubing. Nice and stiff and ready for a sprint. For the most part I enjoy going fast. The Explorer is used for camping/fish/hunting trips.

Vehicles hmmmm....

Last September I bought a pale gold 2004 Dodge Stratus...everyone was so surprised that I didn't come home with a PT Cruiser, which is what I was really wanting, but it just didn't "feel" right when I was test driving it...not my comfort zone I guess. But the Stratus felt more like what I'm used to (traded in a '93 lds Cutlass), so I went with the Stratus. I don't really have a "dream" car...there are some that I'd love to drive just for the fun of it, but I have no desire to own them. Only possible exceptions to that would be a '56 or '57 Corvette or T-Bird.

Ah...a man after my own heart. lol I have a 1993 Ford Mustang LX. White with blue interior. That car has gotten me practically everywhere. It's got 175,000 miles on it now and has a lot of issues so I can't use it for 'road trips to home' (Windsor, Ontario) anymore but it's still fun to drive and on a nice day with the right kind of music.....aaaaaaaaaaah.....awesome!

My dream car.....a saw a (I think) 67 Mustang convertible for sale yesterday that I was drooling over. A like the new ones too. I guess my 'dream' car at this point would be any Mustang that could safely get me to Canada at any given time. :)

Vehicles? Funny you should ask!

:)

I just bought a new car after selling my 10 year old car (the first car I ever had--got it when I was 16!). My new one is a Honda Civic EX and it's red and it has that wonderful new car smell! I'm a little bit excited about it, in case you couldn't tell. I've only had it for a week.

Career stuff. I think my ultimate dream career is that of a stay at home mom. A few years ago, I would have never guessed that I would say that, but God's really been changing some stuff in me for the past few years. That doesn't mean that I sit around pining about not being married or anything. I like being single. But I'm not expecting my current job to be incredibly fulfilling since I don't think it's my ultimate calling.

Other stuff I think about:
My precious puppy dog
All of my other commitments (church, work, volunteer work, friends)
How to stop running my mouth uncontrollably :D

I'm still working on what the perfect job for me would be. It would have to involve my love of finance and my desire to help kids/teens. So until I figure it out I'm working for GM, cutting pizza on the side for extra cash (it's a very convienient(sp) job).

In an effort to move my life towards what I should be doing, I started an Investment club (CCIS Holdings), right now there's ten of us learning about investing, we bought our first security a few months back.

And I just started a Paintball Outreach Ministry (10 Commandos Paintball). I organize paintball outings for youth groups. Tey use my equipment, I get everything at wholesale, so it lowers the cost per person from about $70+ to maybe $40 each. We head out, play paintball, BBQ then have a devotional. First outing is July 10th, so if you're in SE Michigan you're welcome to join us.

My next plan is to start a youth-group based financial something or other. Either a Church Investment Club, or maybe just a class on savings/investment stuff.

Oh yeah, I also co-run a yearly BBQ called "Meatfest". we get about 7 guys (r girls) on grills, BYOBeverages, food's free, so's the entertainment (bring out the TVs, watch the Lion's game in the park). Then vote on who's got the best grill skill.

When I'm a millionaire I'll build an orphanage. In the meantime I like to escape down to Mexico now and then to work at one.

So yeah, that's the all about me and nothing about being single post.

Two jobs, four if you count the club and the outreach. I need a secretary more than I need a girlfriend. :D

Iklepac is right. I also think things like:

Why do my tulips hate me? Why won't they just bloom? WHY???

That is all very cool. :)

You know, youth agencies always need financial people. I've seen a couple of job postings around here lately advertising such a thing... mainly inner city stuff, not church kids.

I can fix stuff! maybe we can cut a deal!

Got it! If you are familiar with the workings of a 1993 Mustang I'll bet I can offer you full-time employment. lol!! I live in a town with a GM factory so every 'mechanic' around is partial to and seems to be only familiar with GM vehicles. It's quite frustrating actually. I'm only about 4-4/12 hours from Detroit (looked at your profile). lol!

Hey, I killed mine back on 03, and they returned this year. There's still hope!

It's like "Night of the Living Tulip" in my backyard.

I was thinking more like Handyman stuff. SO far all I can do with cars is:

1. Open hood
2. Stare
3. Point

But I hear cars are just like computers, robots and rips in the fabric of time. Leave them alone, and eventually they'll fix themselves.
