  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do we need some libido reducing pills on the market? I think many would benefit. What do you think?
They could be very useful for those tormented by desire and who have no unsinful way out of the dilemma.

Never heard of it. Sounds a little scary, but please post a link to it. If it's healthy, it sounds promising, to single Christian men especially.

Many psychotropic and depression drugs have "sexual side effects" listed. For most people that means a reduction or elimination of libido. However there are some (maybe 1 in 100) that it has the exact opposite effect: it runs libido right thru the roof.

But I do not think the world (where sexuality is king) would ever consider researching and marketing such a drug. The single christian market is too small to make any kind of pay-back feasible.

The only advice Paul gives for that is to get married: "It is better to marry than to burn." 1 Cor 7.9 Not "get more self control," or "deny the flesh." Get married.

Or eunuch yourself (Matthew 19:12), but that would be in an extreme case, and only if one is 100% sure that's what God is calling him to. The NT teaching was, however, to bring the flesh under subjugation (1 Corinthians 9:25-27). Yet it will be a lifetime struggle if you go about it this way.

That ain't the only market for that kind of drug. You forgot the "married men with menopausal wives who have lost their desire" market. I would imagine that is probably a bigger market!

The thing about killing your libido (which some have managed to do on their own) is that it almost never resurrects when you need it (like after you get married)

God designed it so it did NOT have an on/off switch.

1 Cor 7 says it is the husband's job to keep the wife sexually satisfied and vice versa.
If she (menopausal or not) is not doing that, she is sinning. Having that available for that market is just enabling sinful behavior.

I don't think we are supposed to take pills for that, or to reduce any temptation. We were put here just as we are to see if we could deal properly so taking a pill would not be dealing with it. How bout we put everyone on Extacy so we all get along better? :)

To put a finer point on it, how bout a no sin pill?

If we aren't dealing with things while in our natural state, we're not dealing.

Buddy, it just ain't no fun if she ain't into it.....anyway, the OP didn't state "for christians only". I'm sure there are plenty of non-believers out there (who've never heard of Paul's misogynistic ways) who could benefit from it.

This would certainly solve a lot of problems. I actually think there would be a big enough market for this to make it profitable.
I would have gladly taken it when I was 22 years old, celibate, totally dedicated to do God's will, with no immediate unsinful way to to attain sexual relief and packed daily on my way to work in the NY subway train like a sardine among a host of hot-to-trot mini-skirted women,.

You made me think. I like things as God created them. But
I think it is odd, so many other things being tampered and manipulated, that we do not have these kinds of drugs at hand, except for the pets maybe. They could easily develop pills or herbs that could be used depending on the lifesituation. Stimulating drugs we do have and that does not seem to be a problem.
