Liberals stoop to new lows...

The word "Liberal" does NOT appear in either of the two links in the OP, and if it is there, then I apologize for what I am about to say: Outright lying is not an effective method for sending a message.

The speakers honored Mrs. King and Dr. King in the best way possible: By speaking out and challenging the abuses of Civil Rights and government lies.

Normally I am against protesting at funerals (like the evangelicals protesting at funerals of dead troops), but this was not a normal funeral, and from everything I know of Mrs. and Dr. King, they would have appreciated what was said.

IMAO, it was not appropriate for Bush to be there.

Putting politics aside.

When you speak at a funeral, you are honoring the memory of the
deceased. I guess it was to much to ask that was to much for the speaker. Couldn't find anything good to say about the lady of Martin Luther King?

A person of honor, and class, to have her funeral politicized. I could have given a better speech, and I didn't even know her.

To Ms. Scott-king:

Racism and hatred took the man she loved, she continued on the path he started. With class and honor she lived her life, now, she is with the 2 she loves most. The husband that was taken from her, and the Father she worked for. Your journey is done, we will morn while you rejoice in the presence of the Lord.

Truly sad that some people just can't stop talking politics, even when speaking at a great persons funeral.

At the funeral, Jimmy Carter noted MLK was wiretapped. But failed to mention, it was the Kennedy machine that did that wiretapping.
You know Jimmy Carter, the Ex Prsident that thinks we should give money to Hamas, the terrorist group that has attacked on numerous occasion.

Do people here really believe that Mrs. King would not have felt honored that people spoke out about abuses and lies? I mean, that's what HER ENTIRE LIFE was about! When Bush used Veteran's Day to TRY and defend his Iraq policy, I didn't hear these same people castigate him for "politicizing" Vet. Day.

I would encourage you to find a source and listen to all of the eulogies and not just a few one liners that the press is repeating. The service was quite long and there were plenty of speakers (including the ones being quoted) who had plenty of good things to say about. Her memory was honored. Her work was exaulted. And the audience was reminded that there is still work to be done and that the problems and issues she worked to make right are still with us and the work needs to go on.

Naming those problems is not politicization. It is addressing the reality that she worked within every day. We are fighting a war she disagreed with and it is being pushed by an administration she disagreed with.

I don't think she would have wanted a candy coated eulogy as you suggest. Naming these things WAS a tribute to her and her work and showed that people are listening and care about the work she did.

It was not a state funeral. Calls for those selected to speak to tone it down or not speak about the very issues that were her lifes work seems like a call for political correctness to rule the day. I think it is kind of funny to see that course of action being recommended and defended.

Not really!! how about Hoover!! the sainted leader of the FBI... he declared Pastor King Jr a communist, and a serious treat to this country...Now there was a man that was not a liberal now was he....had strange dressing habits but not a liberal...and he did more harm to Pastor King Jr, than anyone except the man who shot him...sad isn't

And there wasn't any outrage at those in attendence at the funeral as evidenced by the long standing ovations the comments received.

The speakers were addressing the audience in attendence which consisted of the people that worked right along side the Kings and they were well received. The only outrage is by those who seek to politicize the funeral by focusing on a few selected (and somewhat out of context) portions of the speakers remarks while ignoring the truths of their message as a whole and the other 98% of their remarks and the reception they received by those the message was delivered to.

Some have explained why what some speakers said actually honored King's memory. Of course, not knowing much about the Kings would hinder comprehension of that position.

Nice brush off about Vets day....ad homs in lieu of actual responses are never impressive.

Really and if anyone thought that a civil rights icon would pass on and no political rhetoric would be spoken at the funeral by either side of the fence, they need to get their head of the sand and take a peek around the real world.
