  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Midrash teaches us to respect differing viewpoints, the free exchange of ideas, dialogue, debate, inquiry, investigation, and interpretation. Over the last few years, the social-justice movement within the Jewish community and across the nation has dominated conversations. Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) as the major expression of Judaism was now mandated, not a choice. The once-peaceful and spiritual atmosphere at my synagogue disappeared.

Fellowship is divided along party lines.
Does this also include these "party lines": Ultra Orthodox, Orthodox, Conservative and Reform ...
even Conservative Judaism is looked upon as being too "liberal" by some Jews

I guess I was to broad sweeping a trend, like the media does for different reasons.

The first reference to tikkun olam is in Mishnah Gittin 4:2 ...

Originally, a husband would bring together a court wherever he was and annul the get. Rabban Gamaliel the Elder established that this should not be done, because of “tikkun olam”. Originally the husband would change his name, or his wife’s name, or the name of his town or of his wife’s town. Rabban Gamaliel the Elder established that he should write, “The man so-and-so or any name that he has,”; “the woman so-and-so or any name that she has,” because of “tikkun olam.”

There is so much wrong here ...

That a get would be annulled after its being handed to a wife, in violation of Torah, is considered תּוֹעֵבַה (abomination; cf. Devarim 24:1-4). That only a name change would be considered as a loophole is horrific.

We know what Yeshua - who magnified Torah and made her honourable again - said about divorce. From the beginning it was not this way. If matters of divorce are being used in reference to tikkun olam, I tell you honestly these things in no way "repair the world".

We pray the Aleinu, hoping for what is truly a repairing of the world, when we will see the glory of His strength, that all idols be removed from the earth, that all false gods be cut off completely, that the world will be perfected in His Kingdom. This is the tikkun olam that we hope for.

Substituting every social justice fad out there in the world for the true tikkun olam haba is just futile. How can the ways of the world ever possibly be used to repair it?

31 “It was said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife must give her a get.’ 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, makes her an adulteress; and that anyone who marries a divorcee commits adultery. - Mattityahu 5:31

I do not see how advocacy of adultery would heal our world.

Tikkun olam (Hebrew: תיקון עולם‎, lit. 'repair of the world') is a concept in Judaism, interpreted by some within Orthodox Judaism as the prospect of overcoming all forms of idolatry,[1] and by other Jewish thinkers as an aspiration to behave and act constructively and beneficially.[2]

I got the concept from here Tikkun olam - Wikipedia. , because the behavior in the synagogue along party lines is not beneficial for all. When the adherence to a party irregardless of behavior, attitudes, and thinking by party leaders is contrary to the Word of God, it is a form of idolatry.

Secular governments have historically been one of the biggest idols that the world has faced.

We are ruled by the government above - of Yeshua - he is our king. Not Trump, Biden or any earthly leader.

Is Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) even possible within mainline Judaism? For one thing there is no longer a Temple in Jerusalem and for another reason Judaism (some Orthodox, Conservative and Reform) doesn't believe that Yeshua is Israel's Messiah.

Isn't one of the reasons many religious Jews are democrats is not so much that they favor progressive/liberal socialism, but rather because they associate republicans with evangelical Christians. Whereas, don't the majority of MJs favor the republican party's platform (even if they can't stand Trump).

Tikkun Olam is only possible with the return of Yeshua HaMashiach to establish His Kingdom on a restored new earth.

True... but you keep looking at your fellow "believers" [May not believe in the Messiah Yeshua but they do believe in God] for His character to show through in them, at least I do. That may be my falacy.
