1) If your sister was about to marry a Hindu priest whom you never met, would you advise her against getting married based in his religion?

I wouldn't advise her against marrying him, but knowing how conservative my sister is I'd ask her if she'd thought through the differences in her religion and his, and how she was going to reconcile those differences.

2) If you saw a lady with very short hair, would you think about the biblical stance on short hair for woman?

No, I really wouldn't give her hair style a second thought.

3) Are you offended by the sight of two members of the same sex kissing?

Terribly offended. That's why I spend a lot of time trying to desensitize myself by kissing my same-sex partner as much as possible! ;)

4) Did your parents sleep in separate beds?

My father and mother: no.

My father and stepmother: yes. Dad's snoring sounds like an approaching tornado!

5) Did their parents?

My father's parents: no.
My mother's parents: yes. (If you knew my maternal grandmother, you'd probably understand why he slept in a different room -- out of a sense of self-preservation! The woman could be a real b---h!)

6) Is heavy metal music bad for teenagers?

I doubt it, though heavy metal isn't my cup of tea. I've got a better understanding of how the music works after analyzing some heavy metal music, both in terms of harmonic and rhythmic structure and in stratification of the different parts.

7) Does Harry Potter promote unchristian beliefs?

Oh, for Heaven's sake: they're just freaking BOOKS! Does a science text or a mathematics text, or the movie Gone With The Wind promote unchristian beliefs?

8) Can you name 3 books that should be banned from every library? (yes or no is fine)

I'm against censorship, but I can't understand why anybody would bother reading evangelical Christian fiction!

10) Should abortion be made illegal again?

Wouldn't it be better to have birth control readily available so that people who chose to have sex could do so without having to worry about unintended pregnancies?

11) Would you leave a congregation if the pastor publicly announced they were gay?

No, I'd throw a coming out party for the pastor and his partner!

12) If your congregation had known gay members, would you sit in the same pew with them?

I do every week.

13) Have you ever wondered about how sanitary the communion cup is?

I commune by intinction based on the belief that the body is composed of flesh and blood; therefore, the wine should be incorporated into the bread.

14) Have you ever skipped drinking from the communion cup because you had a cold?

No, because I commune by intinction.

15) Should young children be allowed to watch television unsupervised?

No.

16) Do you thinks high schools should teach about birth control?

Absolutely. Students should be required to take a life skills course set to include birth control, sex education, how to balance a checkbook, how to prepare a meal, how to do laundry, what it's like to care for a child, how to have an argument without beating one's partner to a bloody pulp, etc.

17) If a predominantly Christian country went to war against a predominantly nonchristian country, would religion play a part in helping you decide which country you sided with?

Yes, in the sense that religion would help me evaluate whether or not that was was just. The U.S. (Christian) invaded Iraq (Muslim), but this is certainly NOT a just war and I do NOT support it.

18) When voting for the president, would you consider the religion of the candidate as an important factor?

Yes, insofar as it would provide information on how that candidate goes about solving problems. I don't want any more people in the White House who claim that "God told them to go to war", especially now that we're getting rid of our own Emperor Constantine. (Look at the problems Constantine caused by making Rome a Christian state; and the problems Bush has caused with his Crusade against the Middle East.)

19) Regardless of your own sexuality, would you march in a gay-pride parade?

Oh, I love gay pride! I wonder if I could get away with looking like Tammy Wynette!

20) Do you think that freedom of speech should cover the promotion on unchristian beliefs?

Absolutely!

As far as the hair question, a few folks asked why I put this in the quiz.

Here's why:

1Cor 11:11-15

11In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. 13Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.

I'm just curious if anyone takes this into account if they see a woman with short hair.

I personally don't~

And, as asked, yup, I'll probably take this quiz tonite or tomorrow,

1) If your sister was about to marry a Hindu priest whom you never met, would you advise her against getting married based in his religion? Not necessarily, who she marries is her own choice. Although, depending on what her religious views were, I may be concerned about the issue of compatibility. If she were a Christian, I may feel compelled to specifically ask her how religion would play out in their relationship... what it would mean for the kids, etc.

2) If you saw a lady with very short hair, would you think about the biblical stance on short hair for woman? The Bible doesn't care about anyone's hair.

3) Are you offended by the sight of two members of the same sex kissing? No, I'm actually a bit turned on by it.

4) Did your parents sleep in separate beds? Yes, but only because my mom was a born again Christian and my dad was an abusive alcoholic porn addict.

5) Did their parents? No. My grandparents (on both sides) were conservative Christians and were very cozy with their spouse.

6) Is heavy metal music bad for teenagers? Not in and of itself... though, the style IS annoying!! LOL. Seriously tho, with any form of art, it is how an individual interprets it. There are some people who cannot enjoy certain styles of music or movies or whatever b/c it would compromise their walk with Christ. Other people are fine. It is a Romans 14 issue.

7) Does Harry Potter promote unchristian beliefs? Depending on how one interpretted it, it could be read as being either pro- or anti- Christian. Again, it is a Romans 14 issue.

8) Can you name 3 books that should be banned from every library? (yes or no is fine) No. I'm for free speech... realizing it cuts both ways...

10) Should abortion be made illegal again? In the context of a state's issue, yes.

11) Would you leave a congregation if the pastor publicly announced they were gay? No, I would congratulate her or him on his or her honesty and journey.

12) If your congregation had known gay members, would you sit in the same pew with them? Who says I don't already? ;-)

13) Have you ever wondered about how sanitary the communion cup is? Yeah

14) Have you ever skipped drinking from the communion cup because you had a cold? No, I just don't attend services which use a communal communion cup.

15) Should young children be allowed to watch television unsupervised? Heck no.

16) Do you thinks high schools should teach about birth control? Yes, and the education should include teaching abstinence.

17) If a predominantly Christian country went to war against a predominantly nonchristian country, would religion play a part in helping you decide which country you sided with? As the first premise of this statement is oxymoronic, I do not care to respond. But yes, my religion does impact my view of war.

18) When voting for the president, would you consider the religion of the candidate as an important factor? Yes, absolutely.

19) Regardless of your own sexuality, would you march in a gay-pride parade? Depends on how hot it is outside and whether or not I can get someone to watch my child.

20) Do you think that freedom of speech should cover the promotion of unchristian beliefs? yes.

1) If your sister was about to marry a Hindu priest whom you never met, would you advise her against getting married based in his religion?

I don't have a sister. If I did have a sister she would no doubt be a person of refined taste, intelligence, and sound judgment. I would trust her to make her own decision.

2) If you saw a lady with very short hair, would you think about the biblical stance on short hair for woman?

No.

3) Are you offended by the sight of two members of the same sex kissing?

A sense of public decorum is called for. I am offended by same-sex smooching to the same degree that I am offended by different-sex kissing. A peck on the cheek, a light touch of the lips, no problem. Groping, drooling and licking are out of bounds. French kissing belongs behind closed doors...even in France.

4) Did your parents sleep in separate beds?

Yes.

5) Did their parents?

Beats me.

6) Is heavy metal music bad for teenagers?

At eardrum shattering volumes, yes. At a reasonable volume, it's fine.

7) Does Harry Potter promote unchristian beliefs?

Uhmmm...no.

8) Can you name 3 books that should be banned from every library? (yes or no is fine)

I think that children should be protected from sexually explicit material, hate literature, etc. Other than that, I do not favor censorship in any form.

10) Should abortion be made illegal again?

Absolutely not. Prohibition is a foolish strategy.

11) Would you leave a congregation if the pastor publicly announced they were gay?

Short answer, no.

12) If your congregation had known gay members, would you sit in the same pew with them?

Of course. Don't be silly.

13) Have you ever wondered about how sanitary the communion cup is?

No, but I've read articles on the subject.

14) Have you ever skipped drinking from the communion cup because you had a cold?

Yes.

15) Should young children be allowed to watch television unsupervised?

No.

16) Do you thinks high schools should teach about birth control?

Public schools should teach fact-based sex education courses. Birth control and abstinence should both be part of the curriculum. High School may be too late.

17) If a predominantly Christian country went to war against a predominantly nonchristian country, would religion play a part in helping you decide which country you sided with?

Hmmmm...like say, if the U.S. invaded Iraq? No. The putative religion of a nation's majority population would not decide me. Questions of justice would.

18) When voting for the president, would you consider the religion of the candidate as an important factor?

Only if their religion were truly an impediment to their ability to function in their elected capacity.

19) Regardless of your own sexuality, would you march in a gay-pride parade?

I might...

20) Do you think that freedom of speech should cover the promotion on unchristian beliefs?

I believe in Free Speech as a political principle, not a religious doctrine. In a pluralistic society, freedom of speech must be extended to all religious groups. In this way it protects the right of even Christians to promote their religion. Freedom of speech that is not extended to all parties is not free speech at all.

1) If your sister was about to marry a Hindu priest whom you never met, would you advise her against getting married based in his religion?

Not so much based on his religion, as based on the differences between their religions. If she were Hindu, I'd have no problem with it. But if they were of different faiths, or one was devout and the other not (and had no interest in becoming devout), I would suggest that they talk a great deal about how these religious differences would affect their life together.

2) If you saw a lady with very short hair, would you think about the biblical stance on short hair for woman?

No. I usually only think about the biblical stance on head covering when I see a woman with very long hair, or with a hat.

3) Are you offended by the sight of two members of the same sex kissing?

Offended? No. Kinda squigged, yes. It's an "eww" response rather than a "how dare they!?" response.

4) Did your parents sleep in separate beds?

No

5) Did their parents?

No idea

6) Is heavy metal music bad for teenagers?

If it's always negative in its lyrics, and it's always played at 11, yes. In moderation, no.

7) Does Harry Potter promote unchristian beliefs?

Harry Potter promotes non-christian beliefs, but not anti-christian beliefs. I think there's a difference.

8) Can you name 3 books that should be banned from every library? (yes or no is fine)

No.

10) Should abortion be made illegal again?

Abortion should not be used merely as birth control, but neither should it be illegal for use as a necessary medical procedure.

11) Would you leave a congregation if the pastor publicly announced they were gay?

If he were repentant and celibate, maybe not. However, I think my husband would insist we find another church, so the answer is "probably".

12) If your congregation had known gay members, would you sit in the same pew with them?

Definitely.

13) Have you ever wondered about how sanitary the communion cup is?

No, not really. I've read some threads about it, so I guess I've "wondered", but it's not a worry of mine at all. Alcohol and silver and wiping and turning the cup... it's not a problem. That, and I'm one of only ten or so of us who choose common cup... everyone else in my congregation uses the individual cups.

14) Have you ever skipped drinking from the communion cup because you had a cold?

No.

15) Should young children be allowed to watch television unsupervised?

No.

16) Do you thinks high schools should teach about birth control?

High schools? yes. Middle schools, no.

17) If a predominantly Christian country went to war against a predominantly nonchristian country, would religion play a part in helping you decide which country you sided with?

It depends how much their religion affected their war choices. If a lot, then yes. If it seemed purely political, then no.

18) When voting for the president, would you consider the religion of the candidate as an important factor?

I don't see how it can not be an important factor. Religion, or the lack thereof, molds a person's world view, their priorities, and their decisions. The stronger they hold to a faith, the more impact it will have on their life as a whole... and thus the more important it is for voters to understand that faith and its impact.

19) Regardless of your own sexuality, would you march in a gay-pride parade?

I have done, as an AIDS activist. Now that such parades are more focused on political activism, I would not.

20) Do you think that freedom of speech should cover the promotion on unchristian beliefs?

Yes.

Hi Folks,

It's time for another fun quiz. Please cut and paste the questions into your replies. You may answer Yes, No, Depends, or however you wish. Feel free to explain your answers if you like.

This is a non scientific quiz. I will not be grading this quiz, as I am unsure of many of the answers.

In fairness to the other quiz-takers, please start a new thread if there is going to be any in-depth discussions resulting from this quiz.

1) If your sister was about to marry a Hindu priest whom you never met, would you advise her against getting married based in his religion?
Yes, because I would not want my sister to be "unequally yoked" - unless she was already a Hindu.

2) If you saw a lady with very short hair, would you think about the biblical stance on short hair for woman?
No, because I have short hair because it has never grown longer.

3) Are you offended by the sight of two members of the same sex kissing?
Not unless they are seriously "making out" in which case Anyone doing that would offend me (as in "get a room!")

4) Did your parents sleep in separate beds?
Yes, Dad still had nightmares from WWII and would get kinda combative

5) Did their parents?
No idea, 3 of the 4 were dead by the time I was 6.

6) Is heavy metal music bad for teenagers?
Depends on the lyrics

7) Does Harry Potter promote unchristian beliefs?
no, it's just fiction

8) Can you name 3 books that should be banned from every library? (yes or no is fine)
Not specific titles but I would want books regarding how to commit suicide not to be on the shelves.

10) Should abortion be made illegal again?
(man, I am going to take heat for this but in the vein of being honest) Yes

11) Would you leave a congregation if the pastor publicly announced they were gay?
Yes - it just wouldn't be for me but I wouldn't advocate for others to leave - that's their own decision

12) If your congregation had known gay members, would you sit in the same pew with them?
In a heartbeat - one might be my best friend since I was 7!

13) Have you ever wondered about how sanitary the communion cup is?
Yes

14) Have you ever skipped drinking from the communion cup because you had a cold?
We have those little cups, no common cup

15) Should young children be allowed to watch television unsupervised?
No, and not just for the content but more so it doesn't become a substitute for real human connection and supervision

16) Do you thinks high schools should teach about birth control?
Yes

17) If a predominantly Christian country went to war against a predominantly nonchristian country, would religion play a part in helping you decide which country you sided with?
No. Have you ever read Mark Twain's "War Prayer"? We are ALL God's children to be prayed for and mourned.

18) When voting for the president, would you consider the religion of the candidate as an important factor?
Only if he/she wasn't a Christian

19) Regardless of your own sexuality, would you march in a gay-pride parade?
Pride? No. Rights? Yes.

20) Do you think that freedom of speech should cover the promotion on unchristian beliefs?
If I want to maintain my right to free speech as a Christian, YES!

Interesting quiz - did you design this yourself?

1) If your sister was about to marry a Hindu priest whom you never met, would you advise her against getting married based in his religion?

No. The resultant massive family drama would be awesome entertainment.

2) If you saw a lady with very short hair, would you think about the biblical stance on short hair for woman?

Heh. No.

3) Are you offended by the sight of two members of the same sex kissing?

Offended, no. PDAs in general are obnoxious, though, no matter what the gender.

4) Did your parents sleep in separate beds?

5) Did their parents?

Neither, no.

6) Is heavy metal music bad for teenagers?

Depends on the music and the teenager. I think some personality traits in certain people can be egged on negatively by music and other media. But obviously not all heavy metal is bad and not all kids are susceptible to negative influences.

7) Does Harry Potter promote unchristian beliefs?

No. It's pure invention.

8) Can you name 3 books that should be banned from every library? (yes or no is fine)

No.

10) Should abortion be made illegal again?

Abortion should be minimized (I'd say "eliminated" but that's obviously not possible). I'm not convinced that criminalization is the best method, though.

11) Would you leave a congregation if the pastor publicly announced they were gay?

No. Anyway, I'm pretty sure half the pastors' I've had have been gay. Of course, they're celibate, so it's less relevant than it might be other churches.

12) If your congregation had known gay members, would you sit in the same pew with them?

Of course.

13) Have you ever wondered about how sanitary the communion cup is?

Heh. The thought has crossed my mind.

14) Have you ever skipped drinking from the communion cup because you had a cold?

I usually don't take the cup anyway.

15) Should young children be allowed to watch television unsupervised?

Maybe if the show's been previewed. But it's better to watch actively together and discuss it.

16) Do you thinks high schools should teach about birth control?

Yes.

17) If a predominantly Christian country went to war against a predominantly nonchristian country, would religion play a part in helping you decide which country you sided with?

Maybe if the war were actually over religion. But they never are, even when people cite religion as their motivation.

18) When voting for the president, would you consider the religion of the candidate as an important factor?

Not unless their religious beliefs were causing them to push for stupid legislation.

19) Regardless of your own sexuality, would you march in a gay-pride parade?

Probably not. Maybe if a friend were and I were going along to support them. But I'm not much of a parade/demonstration person.

20) Do you think that freedom of speech should cover the promotion on unchristian beliefs?

Of course.

1) If your sister was about to marry a Hindu priest whom you never met, would you advise her against getting married based in his religion?
Yes. But if she did anyway, I'd still love them as family.

2) If you saw a lady with very short hair, would you think about the biblical stance on short hair for woman?
No

3) Are you offended by the sight of two members of the same sex kissing?
No

4) Did your parents sleep in separate beds?
No

5) Did their parents?
I have no idea.

6) Is heavy metal music bad for teenagers?
Depends on the lyrics. Some have very negative messages.

7) Does Harry Potter promote unchristian beliefs?
No

8) Can you name 3 books that should be banned from every library? (yes or no is fine)
No. I don't believe in banning books.

10) Should abortion be made illegal again?
I think Roe v. Wade should be overturned, and each state should make what laws on the subject their political consensus will support. That's based on my political philosophy (libertarian-conservative, states rights, strict construction constitutionalist) much more than my theology.

11) Would you leave a congregation if the pastor publicly announced they were gay?
No

12) If your congregation had known gay members, would you sit in the same pew with them?
Yes

13) Have you ever wondered about how sanitary the communion cup is?
N/A - my church doesn't use a common communion cup.

14) Have you ever skipped drinking from the communion cup because you had a cold?
N/A - my church doesn't use a common communion cup.

15) Should young children be allowed to watch television unsupervised?
Depends. I'd probably set some parental controls, based on their age and maturity level.

16) Do you thinks high schools should teach about birth control?
Yes, but in a factual manner. There shouldn't be any advocacy except from a public health standpoint.

17) If a predominantly Christian country went to war against a predominantly nonchristian country, would religion play a part in helping you decide which country you sided with?
It would be a factor, but only one of many.

18) When voting for the president, would you consider the religion of the candidate as an important factor?
It speaks to both character and ideology, so yes, it matters. But I'd prefer a well-qualified atheist who agreed with my politics, to a fellow Christian who was not well-qualified or of opposite ideology. And I would not vote for a Muslim at all, unless I were totally sure of his loyalty to America even above his religion.

19) Regardless of your own sexuality, would you march in a gay-pride parade?
I might.

20) Do you think that freedom of speech should cover the promotion on unchristian beliefs?
Yes, though I think there's a good case for the suppression of radical Islam, not as a religion but as a totalitarian political ideology.

1) If your sister was about to marry a Hindu priest whom you never met, would you advise her against getting married based in his religion?

If my sister were a Christian, yes.

2) If you saw a lady with very short hair, would you think about the biblical stance on short hair for woman?

No.

3) Are you offended by the sight of two members of the same sex kissing?

Yes. Or maybe "creeped out" is a better answer.

4) Did your parents sleep in separate beds?

No, their names were not Rob and Laura. ;)

(In their later years, they *have* moved to separate beds -- separate rooms, in fact.)

5) Did their parents?

Umm... My dad's parents had separate bedrooms in their later years.

6) Is heavy metal music bad for teenagers?

Kind of depends on whether it's Xian Metal, and on how loud they play it.

7) Does Harry Potter promote unchristian beliefs?

Maybe, but no more than Superman or Star Trek.

8) Can you name 3 books that should be banned from every library? (yes or no is fine)

Books... books... oh, yeah, those square things with lots sheets of paper covered with printing in them. They still have those?

And my answer is "no."

10) Should abortion be made illegal again?

Yes.

11) Would you leave a congregation if the pastor publicly announced they were gay?

Yes.

12) If your congregation had known gay members, would you sit in the same pew with them?

Yes.

13) Have you ever wondered about how sanitary the communion cup is?

Hah! All the churches I've attended have used those little individual mini-cups. The question never occurred to me.

14) Have you ever skipped drinking from the communion cup because you had a cold?

n/a. See above.

15) Should young children be allowed to watch television unsupervised?

Oy. Probably not. What a hassle.

16) Do you thinks high schools should teach about birth control?

Not sure. Not if they teach abortion as an option.

17) If a predominantly Christian country went to war against a predominantly nonchristian country, would religion play a part in helping you decide which country you sided with?

Well, I'm skeptical as to whether there *are* any "predominantly Christian" nations, so...

18) When voting for the president, would you consider the religion of the candidate as an important factor?

Not "important," but it might play *some* part.

19) Regardless of your own sexuality, would you march in a gay-pride parade?

No.

20) Do you think that freedom of speech should cover the promotion on unchristian beliefs?

Yes.

Not an in-depth distraction I hope--but cold germs are not spread through saliva. They are spread through SNOT! SO drinking from a common cup isn't going to give you anything as innocuous as a cold ^_^

Unless someone before you had a cold and a mustache and... um, well, you know.

-Quick note from the the OP-

A few folks have asked if their answers made them fundy or not.

I have no idea.

I just put a few questions together, some of which seem to draw different positions from different camps.

This quiz is not scientific, and it won't be graded.

I just find it interesting to ask a bunch of questions and read the responses.

And, most of all, I hope that you folks enjoy taking my little quizzes!

I object! I want my No-Prize!

(Which, if you were not a fan of Silver Age Marvel Comics, means nothing to you.)

1) If your sister was about to marry a Hindu priest whom you never met, would you advise her against getting married based in his religion?
I would want to meet him first to ask questions about how he views women. I would not advise anything before meeting him.

2) If you saw a lady with very short hair, would you think about the biblical stance on short hair for woman?
No.

3) Are you offended by the sight of two members of the same sex kissing?
No.

4) Did your parents sleep in separate beds?
They do now; my mum is disabled.

5) Did their parents?
I don't know.

6) Is heavy metal music bad for teenagers?
Only if it's too loud, which sadly is often the case with any music that teens listen to. That's why many of them have, or will have, a hearing damage at an early age. If I had children I would be very strict about the noise level of their music because I have a hearing loss myself (not because of listening to loud music by the way), and I would want to protect them, and my own ears too (loud noises hurt my ears, and it soon becomes too loud for me). But I have no objection to heavy metal as such, and it's a lot better than techno or dance music. Or rap.

7) Does Harry Potter promote unchristian beliefs?
No, it promotes christian beliefs.

8) Can you name 3 books that should be banned from every library? (yes or no is fine)
No, I don't believe in censorship.

10) Should abortion be made illegal again?
Yes, except when the mother's life is in danger.

11) Would you leave a congregation if the pastor publicly announced they were gay?
No. I have had gay pastors before. It wasn't a problem because catholic priests are celibate, but I personally would not have a problem with it in other cases, either.

12) If your congregation had known gay members, would you sit in the same pew with them?
Yes, and I have. My sister-in-law is gay, and she has even slept in our house. ;)

13) Have you ever wondered about how sanitary the communion cup is?
We usually only have bread, not wine, so it's a non-issue. And at my wedding I only had to share with my husband and the priest and the acolites.

14) Have you ever skipped drinking from the communion cup because you had a cold?
Doesn't apply (see 13).

15) Should young children be allowed to watch television unsupervised?
No.

16) Do you thinks high schools should teach about birth control?
Yes.

17) If a predominantly Christian country went to war against a predominantly nonchristian country, would religion play a part in helping you decide which country you sided with?
Yes, but who started it would play a part too, and the reason of the war. And I noticed that I'm often not on anyone's side as I am against war in general.

18) When voting for the president, would you consider the religion of the candidate as an important factor?
No.

19) Regardless of your own sexuality, would you march in a gay-pride parade?
No, I hate and fear crowds.

20) Do you think that freedom of speech should cover the promotion on unchristian beliefs?
Yes.

Hi Rebekka!! Nice to see you here!:hug:

I see I came out pretty much in line with Desmalia.

I'm sure a good quiz on Soteriology could "fix" that!
Ooo, sounds like fun!! ^_^
