  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Since you've been married, do you feel that physically, have you "let yourself go?"
perhaps putting on a few pounds.

Ladies I know after having kids, it can be harder to get back to our pre conception weight. And Guys, going out to shoot hoops or playing tennis may be put on the back burner, especially when you have a wife who makes amazing dishes.

Do you think you've let yourselves go or have you maintain the before marriage appearance? Just curious.

I personally have put on over 55lbs since Ive been married. I'm 191lbs, 5'7 and trying to lose enough to fit back into my fat clothes ^_^ .

I had children so I'll never look like I did when we first married but I worked hard to get as close to my pre-child shape/size as I could. As much as my husband appreciates that I didn't do it for him. I did it for me. Being fit has a huge impact on my own personal confidence.

I'm going on a diet (for real this time!). I noticed that clothes aren't fitting as well as before, but then again... I'm 5'7" as well. I was in a size 6 and can still fit but... it's tighter. Learning how to cook caused it. I personally don't mind and neither does hubby, but I've actually been asked why I'm getting fat. :( People are cruel.

Pre marriage (and pre pregnancy) I weighed 105-110 and am 5'4''. I was very tiny to say the least. I gained 41lbs with my pregnancy, I didn't lose it all, but I probably weigh about 135-140..I think I carry my weight well...so I really look better now than I did before. I have stretch marks and cellulite..but that's not anything that anyone else sees but hubby, and he doesn't mind. I still dress up when I go out, I do my hair and make up, I shower daily...I definatly haven't let myself go..and I don't plan on it.

I have had five children. I weigh twenty pounds more then when I married. I look great for someone my age with that many kids under my belt.

I do not diet. Diets do not work.

I'm fasting meat for a year.

I've lost ten pounds this way. I could diet and lost more (I only need to lose twenty tops). We both understand we are not twenty one anymore but we keep up with what we have.

:D

How come there is such a focus on women letting themselves go but not really anything about men?

When it comes to looks, there's always more pressure put on women. My husband has gained more weigh than I have I think...but it's because he never has any time to go do anything anymore and his job doesn't involve much movement either besides his fingers.

I have the same size/shape body now as when we were married. I still dress the same, do hair the same etc.

DH has lost a little weight (only recently, after much 'encouraging'). He dresses better and does his hair nicer than when we married (my influence of course ;) )

I'm sorry to hear that. People can be cruel. but for the record, you are perfectly within you height/weight ratio. don't listen to those other people. you know they're just jealous.
I recently cut off years of locks from my head. I did it for spirital reasons, but people only had negative things to say to me. the nicest thing i heard was i liked you better with long hair. I tell them God Bless you but you are not my husband.
remember that.

I've done this one too! ;)

I have gained weight... Badly.. In fact from the weight I was at 1 month before the wedding, to 8 months after, I'd gained 22 pounds. this was partly due to getting over malnutrition (during a time in Tanzania barely eating, and not eating well) and eating too much sugar and fat (can anyone say "working at mcdonalds!"? :p)

However, I have lost about 6 pounds of that, and I plan to lose about 20 pounds over the next 10 weeks.

I've gained about 40 lbs since marrying, but I was a bit underweight before marrying, currently 202 lbs @ 6' 1" I've always had problems with being too thin, sickly so at times. Twice I've been below the anorexic marker line for extended periods. Which is another (out of many) areas where I've been hurt by gender discrimination; thankfully anorexia treatment is now available to boys, although men are still shut out.

My wife is exactly the same weight as eight years ago and could, if she wanted, get away with wearing the bikini she wore 35 years ago. Why she keeps the thing is beyond me as she refuses to put it on.

The whole idea of letting one's self go amuses me, at least a bit. Why (other than for unhealthy reasons) would anyone care? We all change, and not for the better, as we age.

I haven't "let myself go" (I don't like that phrase), but I gained about 10-15 pounds. I still look good, my husband thinks I'm even more beautiful. When I lived alone, I didn't enjoy eating, and now with my husband I do. I'm an excellent cook, so what if it shows? And we both take good care of ourselves.

Before I met my husband I was underweight and sick so it's even a good thing that I gained weight when I met my husband (the year of our engagement we ate together almost every day, too, so I wasn't anorexic anymore when we got married).

It's not that I'm trying to be lazy or anything, but I'm about 10-15lbs heavier than I was a few years ago. I still look like a twig though. :(

Up until a year ago, I was walking to work while carrying my daughter on my shoulders to drop her off at pre-school on my way. That gave me about 25min worth of walking in the morning, and another 25min in the afternoon. Carrying the extra weight on my shoulders helped to keep the calories burning, which also helped me maintain a low bodyfat percentage.

Then we moved in with my parents who live faaar away and I had to start driving long distances to and from work. This has also eaten into my leisure time which I could be spending walking or exercising. :( So over the past year, I've noticed differences around my stomach area. My pants and shirts have become noticeably tighter.

Once we get back into our new house (this week :)), I'm going to spend my lunch hours in the gym in my office building doing spinning classes. That should melt that fat right off.
