  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Personally, I think that as a private organization, the Boy Scouts ought to say "Thanks, but no thanks" to the government money with all of its attatched strings, and stick to their guns. If Christian parents distrust what the Scouts are doing, then they should pull their kids out of the Scouts.

But then, I also think that every Christian parent in America should pull their kids out of every public school in America, too. US public schools are simply left-wing brain laundries, and parents IMHO should either homeschool their kids or send them to a reputable Christian school.

I also think that all of the holiday hoopla should end as well. If you want to celebrate Christmas and put up a Nativity scene on your front lawn, you should. If you're not a Christian and don't celebrate Christmas, then you should be to work bright and early at 7 AM on Christmas Day just like every other day.

Just my 2 cent's worth. :)

Wolseley, that, what you propose is less than feasable.
There are holidays for Christiansa, on them Christians don´t havwe to work. This is a leftover from the dark ages, when the church forced the landowners to accept the free sunday and some high festivities.
Nowadays, various organisations have taken over the duty to work for betterment of workers.
Each religion has some festivities it holds dear. If non Chrsitians must work on Christian holidays, equal treatment must occur. Meaning, that on their respective high festivity days, these others must have free days. Which would cause endless chaos in every company. Not to speak of the legal battles, what is a religion and possible discrimination of nonchristians in looking for work, since they create the chaos.

As for homeschooling, this is the worst thing, that can happen to a kid. No parent can learn as much about something than all the respective teachers combined. And the lessons change with time. A homeschooled kid won´t have teh overall knowledge of a non homeschooled one. Adding to that, the kid won´t learn social behavior and teamwork.
Public schoosl are a lot less brainwashing, than Christian schools. Usually tolerance towards other beliefs and strangeness is required in public schools. Can you say the same for Christian schools, especially tolerance of other belief systems?

Gunnysgt still has not grapsed the principle of discussion. Making pics and posting them adds nothing to the discussion at hand.

Public schools not brainwashing?

Teaching children that evolution is the only truth, that we were all little Bonzo's(chimps) running around before we stood upright.

Teaching children that diversity and moral relativism are the most important things in life. Not the education, to be sure, as reflected by the undereducated youth being fed through the public school mills.

Tolerance towards others, taught in public schools?

The increase of classroom violence, children vs. children and children vs. teachers is steadily increasing in the public schools each year.

Children should be taught a solid education not the stressing of accepting strangeness.

Look at the numbers, and how USA public school students measure up with children from other countries, espicially in the math and sciences.

We need to start focusing on teaching our Country's youth the basic's plus new technologies not majors in weirdness and strangeness.

You know Gunny, what's weird or stange is relative.  Who's to say that you aren't the one who's weird?

Rae:
No, I think there are far worse things...and I think you do too. This is obviously exaggeration on your part.

Lac:
No parent can learn as much about something than all the respective teachers combined.

Rae:
Sure they can. I have a Pagan friend who home schooled his daughter. He had no problem because he used textbooks.

Lac:
And the lessons change with time. A homeschooled kid won´t have teh overall knowledge of a non homeschooled one.

Rae:
Given the constant cuts in school funding, especially for "gifted" programs for the extra intelligent kids, sure you want to say that?

Lac:
Adding to that, the kid won´t learn social behavior and teamwork.

Rae:
This is a lie. I attended junior high and high school, and all that I was taught about "social behavior" and "teamwork" was that all the other kids hated me and felt it was their right to torture me every day. I'd have been better off being home schooled, and I know thousands of other people who'd agree with me, too!

Again Rae, you are right, ok mostly right... I agree with most of what you said. However, your last rebuttal to Lac is a bit strong. I think some kids benefit, and some kids don't from homeschool. For myself I was picked on in early junior high, but I got into some school sports and that worked wonders for my self esteem and confidence. Plus it allowed and forced me to interact when all I really wanted to do was withdraw into my little shell.

Had I been homeschooled... well, I don't even want to imagine.

I'm not sure the idea of homeschooling vs private schooling is really much of an issue, I can see good and bad reasons for both. What I do see as an issue that affects children directly is the tendancy of fundamentalist Christians to homeschool to avoid having their children exposed to some very basic scientific principles. This will put the child at a distinct disadvantage if the child wishes to pursue a career in biological research, for instance.
This tendancy of Fundamentalists to retreat from the world is directly contributing to the decline in Fundamentalism that we see. I cannot but view that as a good thing as it will eventually mean the complete disappearance of that very system, if the trend continues. I cannot help but feel sorry for the Children though, who will be denied knowledge of, or even exposure to, scientific principles which lie at the core of applied science and the technology we all seem to enjoy.
