Correct. He taught what according to him was right and what was wrong, and was clear and direct about it. He blatantly told Pharisees that they have already received their reward. I never said he unjustly insulted sinners, but he certainly was not very nice with people who would not admit their sins.Jesus is insulting sinners? How so?I do believe that He rebuked pagans and hypocrite because of the sinful things that they do. He teaches us of what is wrong and what is right in His sight.
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.Where can I find the verses about destruction?![]()
-Matthew 7:13
I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
-Matthew 8:11-12
As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
-Matthew 13:40-43
I'm not arguing with his mission; I'm all for it. My point is that he's not super nice and gentle all the time, at least not in the Bible. I'm sure he was great with kids, because kids in the Bible seemed to like him, but he was not super gentle with people in general- he told them what they needed to know.Wow, now that's harsh. If he was not super nice and gentle, will He not ignore the children in verses Mark 10: 14-15? Will He not show His wrath on the soldiers who arrested Him or the men who crucified Him? Will He not save us from our sins and let Himself be crucified instead of us?
"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn
" 'a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her motherinlaw—
a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.
"Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
-Matthew 10:34-39
Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:25-27
I agree it was nice, not sure how true it is though. I think people tend to try to shape God to the way they want him to be, including myself sometimes. I'd like it if God was really like that, but I don't see in scripture how he is like that. Personally I'm not sure how Jesus would talk right now in our generation, but it would probably be pretty similar to how he talked in the Bible- stern and serious.Well, the letter of "Paul_Wright_luvr" is very nice and so true. But you can see on her letter the Father's love and how Jesus really cares for us. I think it's just how Jesus would talk right now in our generation. God Bless.![]()
My point is not that Jesus is mean, but he's not the goody-goody that people seem to portray him as. I can't say I've met him obviously, but from what the Bible says, he just doesn't seem to be like that. He came to provide salvation for people, and that's what he did. He is portrayed in the Bible as loving and forgiving, but also stern and serious. I think the OP meant well, though, so I apologize for being very direct with my post.
