Jesus is insulting sinners? How so? :) I do believe that He rebuked pagans and hypocrite because of the sinful things that they do. He teaches us of what is wrong and what is right in His sight.
Correct. He taught what according to him was right and what was wrong, and was clear and direct about it. He blatantly told Pharisees that they have already received their reward. I never said he unjustly insulted sinners, but he certainly was not very nice with people who would not admit their sins.

Where can I find the verses about destruction? :)
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
-Matthew 7:13

I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
-Matthew 8:11-12

As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
-Matthew 13:40-43

Wow, now that's harsh. If he was not super nice and gentle, will He not ignore the children in verses Mark 10: 14-15? Will He not show His wrath on the soldiers who arrested Him or the men who crucified Him? Will He not save us from our sins and let Himself be crucified instead of us?
I'm not arguing with his mission; I'm all for it. My point is that he's not super nice and gentle all the time, at least not in the Bible. I'm sure he was great with kids, because kids in the Bible seemed to like him, but he was not super gentle with people in general- he told them what they needed to know.

"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn
" 'a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her motherinlaw—
a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.
"Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
-Matthew 10:34-39

Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:25-27

Well, the letter of "Paul_Wright_luvr" is very nice and so true. But you can see on her letter the Father's love and how Jesus really cares for us. I think it's just how Jesus would talk right now in our generation. God Bless. :)
I agree it was nice, not sure how true it is though. I think people tend to try to shape God to the way they want him to be, including myself sometimes. I'd like it if God was really like that, but I don't see in scripture how he is like that. Personally I'm not sure how Jesus would talk right now in our generation, but it would probably be pretty similar to how he talked in the Bible- stern and serious.

My point is not that Jesus is mean, but he's not the goody-goody that people seem to portray him as. I can't say I've met him obviously, but from what the Bible says, he just doesn't seem to be like that. He came to provide salvation for people, and that's what he did. He is portrayed in the Bible as loving and forgiving, but also stern and serious. I think the OP meant well, though, so I apologize for being very direct with my post.

I never said he unjustly insulted sinners, but he certainly was not very nice with people who would not admit their sins.

Well, how else would He correct the sinners, who do not admit their sins from their wrong doings, when the sinners themselves don't listen to Him or don't do what He(God) says? And what's so wrong about Him saying that the Pharisees have received their rewards? :)

I'm familiar with these verses but it just tells us about the judgment for the sinners who did not repent or accept Him and who continues to do evil.

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
-Matthew 7:13

It's just simple. It doesn't talk about destruction really. IMO, I think it says about our life in this world. That we Christians who do His will, will endure hardships, sufferings, and persecutions.

I'm not arguing with his mission; I'm all for it. My point is that he's not super nice and gentle all the time, at least not in the Bible. I'm sure he was great with kids, because kids in the Bible seemed to like him, but he was not super gentle with people in general- he told them what they needed to know.

Yes, He's not super nice and gentle all the time because of what sinners do. Remember He is holy and He hates sin. But He still shows mercy and love to sinners.

"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn
" 'a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her motherinlaw—

Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
-Matthew 10:34-39

Yeah, at first glance, it's like He's contradicting Himself on some of the verses like, "Peace I leave with you" in John 14:27. But it is true that Jesus came to bring peace - peace between the believer and God, and peace among men. Those family members in the same family is just a simile of the conflicts when Christ came - between Christ and the anti-Christ, between light and darkness.

I think it's just right that He said that "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me". There's nothing wrong with it. :)

Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:25-27

It just says that believers are to "hate" their parents in the sense they love Christ more. Taking His cross means following Him that requires self-denial, complete dedication and obedience.

I agree it was nice, not sure how true it is though. I think people tend to try to shape God to the way they want him to be, including myself sometimes. Yes, He was stern and serious. But it doesn't mean He can't be a loving, kind Father or friend. :) I think it's funny when after He resurrected He didn't introduce Himself to the two men who were going to a village called Emmaus. ^_^

I believe you may be missing my point. I at no point said that Jesus did anything wrong, or that he could have done it a better way. I'm just pointing out that he's not all love and daisies.

I'm familiar with these verses but it just tells us about the judgment for the sinners who did not repent or accept Him and who continues to do evil.
The judgment part is another thing about Jesus proving he is not all gentle and kind. He has a very just side as well.

It's just simple. It doesn't talk about destruction really. IMO, I think it says about our life in this world. That we Christians who do His will, will endure hardships, sufferings, and persecutions.
A verse about destruction that doesn't really talk about destruction? The broad road leading to destruction is referencing how easy it is to be lead astray, and to end up in hell/destruction/not heaven.

Yes, He's not super nice and gentle all the time because of what sinners do. Remember He is holy and He hates sin. But He still shows mercy and love to sinners.
That is exactly my point. He shows a gentle, loving side, but also a just, stern, serious side.

Yeah, you are definitely missing my point. For the most part we are reading scripture the same way. You seem to be pointing out what individual verses mean to me, but I'm already in agreement for the most part. I'm not questioning Jesus or saying he's a bad guy, I'm simply pointing out that he is not all nice and loving, but also just and stern, at least biblically.

Yes, He was stern and serious. But it doesn't mean He can't be a loving, kind Father or friend. :) I think it's funny when after He resurrected He didn't introduce Himself to the two men who were going to a village called Emmaus. ^_^
He is for the most part a loving, kind, friend. I'm not calling that into question. It just seems to me people forget all of these parts and focus only on the loving part, but he's more than that.

My overall point is that I while I think the original poster had good intentions, I don't think that the posted letter represents Jesus very well at all, at least not the way he is portrayed in the Bible. Most of what is said in the letter is very dissimilar to what is said in the Bible.

Yes, He has a very just side. But I do believe that He is all gentle and kind for what He said, "...for I am gentle and humble in heart..". And I always believe that He is. :)

A verse about destruction that doesn't really talk about destruction? The broad road leading to destruction is referencing how easy it is to be lead astray, and to end up in hell/destruction/not heaven.

Hmm.. Maybe that's it. It was just my opinion about it. lol.. But that's so true.

Okay. If that's what you think. I won't argue with you anymore. :D

Whatever one may think of the letter give the child who wrote it a chance to grow in wisdom. Only our Saviour knows her heart and he is zealous of protecting his children "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble..."(Mark 9:42). Read Romans 1 & 2 to properly understand the effect of sin on all of us and read Matthew 5, 6, & 7 to see what our Saviour expects of us.

Isn't part of "growing in wisdom" being corrected when you say something Unbiblical?

Dear Friend,
How are you? I just had to send a note to tell you how much I love you and care about you. I saw you yesterday as you were talking with your friends. I waited all day, hoping you would want to talk with Me also. As evening drew near, I gave you a sunset to close your day and a cool breeze to rest you - and I waited. You never came. Oh, yes, it hurts Me - but I still love you because I am your Friend. I saw you fall asleep last night and longed to touch your brow, so I spilled moonlight upon your pillow and face. Again I waited, wanting to rush down so we could talk. I have so many gifts for you! You awakened late and rushed off to work. My tears were in the rain. Today you looked so sad - so all alone. It makes My heart ache because I understand. My friends let Me down and hurt Me many times, too, but I love you.
Oh, if you would only listen to Me. I love you! I try and tell you in the blue sky and in the quiet green grass. I whisper it in the leaves on the trees and breathe it in the colors of flowers. I shout it to you in the moutain strreams and give birds love songs to sing. I clothe you with warm sunshine and perfume the air with nature scents. My love for you is deeper than the ocean and bigger than the biggest want or need in your head. Oh, if you only knew how much I want to walk and talk with you. We could spend an eternity together in heaven.
I know how hard it is on this earth; I really know! And I want to help you. I want you to meet My Father. He wants to help you, too. My Father is that way, you know.
Just call Me - ask Me - talk with Me! Oh, please don't forget Me. I have so much to share with you!
All right, I won't bother you any further. You are free to choose Me. It's your decision. I have chosen you, and because of this I will wait - because I love you!
Your Friend,
Jesus

As you can tell, there has been much discussion and analysis of this post. I notice, though, no one seems to have asked you:

  1. Why is this posted in the "Questions by Non Christians" particularly since you identify yourself as a Christian; and
  2. What was the intent (if any) of posting this letter?
Always curious,

OldChurchGuy
