  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you can find a verse that says "a person's soul floats off to heaven heaven when they die" I would love to see it.

That is correct
Joh 17:12
ἐμαρτύρει οὖν ὁ ὄχλος ὁ ὢν μετ’ αὐτοῦ ὅτε τὸν Λάζαρον ἐφώνησεν ἐκ τοῦ μνημείου καὶ ἤγειρεν αὐτὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν.

When someone posts greek, you don't know what verse they are talking about. So he-man is correct.

I didn't even look at it.

Heman often reposts the exact same thing over and over again.

I didn't know he changed one.

Yes, because you don't read greek, and he does. If you had read what he posted, you would have seen right away that it wasn't the same verse.

I don't read every one of his posts.

He duplicates them all the time.

Why don't you just quote our English Bibles? You prefer YOUR translation?
I usually do quote english bibles. I generally use the NIV, NASB, or ESV.
I got angry when you said that every english translation disagreed with my translation, which is actually untrue. Since you and gradyll are claiming to know more about greek than Heman and me, we needed to show that you don't. You don't just accept talk from us, we had to demonstrate that you don't understand greek. I know that hurt you two, but what else could we do? I read the bible in a lot of different translations, and I also read the new testament every day in greek, I'm using a one year plan, OT in ESV this time and NT in greek. I don't agree with you that reading the NT in greek is not as good as reading a translation of the NT.

If you prefer, I will just quote the original greek. You can use whatever translator you like.
When you guys quote 4 different words all as "hell", something is fishy. That should tell you something. What are you trying to hide by this phony baloney? So when the bible says gehenna, I say gehenna. When the bible says hades, I say hades. I can't read hebrew, but I know that sheol is translated as hell about half the time and grave the rest of the time, depending on the whim of the translator. What are these people trying to hide? So yes, I prefer the original language most of the time, what you call "YOUR translation." I'm not hiding anything at all, I want the truth to come out.

And consider this, There is a billion dollar industry committed to keeping people in the dark about hell, and they are the ones translating four different words all as hell, and sometimes substituting other words when translating sheol as "hell" would get too embarrassing. The church industry would lose billions of dollars if people found out that they didn't have to pay to stay out of "hell".

Edit to add, one of the biggest companies in the church industry had income after expenses of 234 Billion Dollars.

Tim said:
I believe what the bible says.

If you can find a verse in the bible that says "a person's soul floats off to heaven when they die" I would love to see it.

In Ecclesiastes 12:9 we find that at death the body "returns to the dust" and the spirit "goes back to God who gave it".

The person is in a dormant state of sleep as we are told in Eccl 9:5-6 and Ps 146:4 "thoughts cease" at death.

So because of that dormant state - Jesus affirms in Matt 22 "God is not the God of the dead" and shows how this fact if proof of a future resurrection.

What the Bible does NOT say is "To BE absent from the body IS TO BE present with the Lord". There is not even one verse in all of scripture that says that - yet many Christians today will blindly follow pastors that get up claim that such a verse exists!

Rather in 2Cor 5:1-8 we find THREE states.

1. Clothed in THIS decaying mortal tent.
2. UNCLOTHED -- no body - in the state of death
3. clothed in our heavenly eternal body at the resurrection

Paul says all the saints desire to be absent from the body - the first one, the decaying tent AND to be present with the Lord in the 3rd state already mentioned in 2Cor 5:1-2.

in Christ,

Bob

Acts 2:27-29 - is David burning in hell at the time of Peter's speech at Pentecost? Peter tells us "in the text" that the word means "in the grave". Every translation you have points that out.

in Christ,

Bob

I posted nearly ten translations of that verse, are you going to dispute the greek behind the verse or what? Because what you say above is obviously false.

I told you Heman duplicates posts alot.
You and Dollarsbill were going on and on about how Heman and I didn't know any greek, and we didn't know what we were talking about, and all the english translations disagree with us. This was spread over three different threads. When Heman proved that we did know what we were talking about and you didn't, the news of that needed to put in each of the three threads where you guys made your false accusations. Next time, be careful about what you say so that you won't have to get put down.
