There are THREE FIRMAMENTS:

1. First Firmament = First Heaven = 0 - 63 miles up
2. Second Firmament = Second Heaven = 63 miles - edge of universe
3. Third Firmament = Heaven proper

Notice how the Bible starts out:

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Notice "heaven" is singular?

That's because in the beginning, God created one firmament before He created a second one.

1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

After creating the earth and space, notice what He does next:

Genesis 1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

He goes underwater several miles and shears off the earth -- which, by the way, is nothing more than a ball of seawater then -- and balloons it out into space.

At the same time, He pulls nitrogen, oxygen, and several other atoms out of the ocean, creating the atmosphere.

Now we have two firmaments/heavens: the sky and space.

A third, Heaven proper, comes later.

I'd love for Rob to come here and debate me on this.

You jumped from Adam's firmament to the present firmament of our Universe. Our firmament/Universe was made the THIRD Day Gen 2:4 while Adam's firmament/Universe was made the SECOND DAY. Gen 1:8 Mixing the two causes confusion and prohibits a true understanding of Genesis.

The moon is much closer to us than the sun, which is much closer to us than the nearest star, which is much closer to us than the Pleiades, which is much closer to us than the Andromeda Galaxy, which is much closer to us than the 'size of the radius of the universe'. This model of the universe does not reflect reality.

If the curvature is very large, then the space inside AND outside of the curvature would be very large. I see it is very good.

This means the model has them all being the same distance away from the surface of the earth. The moon is not the same distance away from us as the stars.

The firmament, in that case, is not a line or a narrow zone, but has huge space. Why should sun, moon, stars have the same distance to the earth?
