  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Actually, my picture above just now changed to that. "Hotlinking" eh? (and know I'm not Canadian, don't shoot! :p ) I'll have to see what you did above and use that from now on... just learned something new :)

Web server software can be told to swap a placeholder image in place of the originally intended image when someone hotlinks. The problem is: some sites will swap an obscene image. It's not uncommon for a site to swap the image for one that says "F**K YOU BANDWIDTH THIEF" or something equally embarrassing.

Here's a thread about it: Similar questions with Askville Amazon google connection disappear

And here are some less obscene samples:

Careful out there. It can be madness. ;)

Wow, the joke thread turns into a nationalist peeing contest. Yes, the US has a more powerful military than Canada. We also have 270+ million more people than Canada does. Objectively Canada did not take part in the war of 1812 because Canada, as an independent state, did not exist until 1867. Any one that was from the colonies that make up modern Canada would have taken part in the War of 1812 as a British subject. In much the same way that American colonists that fought in the French & Indian wars did so as British subjects.

We need to fan the flames of war here... some good old fashion movie propaganda!

YouTube - Canadian bacon

:p Not much of a movie, but it had some great lines:

"Surrender pronto, or we'll level Toronto."

"We have ways of making you pronounce the letter 'O'"

"...And when have you heard anyone say, 'honey, let's stay in and order some 'Canadian' food...'"

"All I said was Canadian beer sucked..."

:D

Dogfish Head. Stone. Weyerbacher. Bell. Anchor. Longhammer. Manchester.

I'm sure Canada has some craft beers... but I've never heard of them.

I've never heard of any of those, either. Neither America or Canada are really seen as countries you'd want to visit for their beer.

Now Belgium, on the other hand...

I've never heard of any of those, either.

That was my point. Craft beers are usually brewed in small batches and distributed regionally, and advertise by word-of-mouth. They can do that because they're good enough that people will actually talk about them. Macrobreweries need to spend billions of dollars convincing people that their beer is any good, because it isn't. And unfortunately, it works, although I've never known anyone who tried a craft brew after years of drinking MillCoorWeiser beer-flavored water and did not decide they had been missing out.

But what that means is that the beers that have the most notoriety are not the ones with the most flavor, complexity, body, or ABV - they are the ones that spend ten dollars on ads for every one they spend on R&D.

Sometimes I think that Canadians can be equally as patriotic as Americans. It is only really the British who are derogative about their own nation!

You haven't read many of my posts, have you? :p

Of course in my case it's just because I'm a cranky individualist and don't really believe in the existence of nation-states in the first place.
