This is a very powerful and moving writing.
Tell the story to each generation or we’ll surely regret
Tell the story proudly lest we forget.
Lest We Forget-photo by Debbie
This has been written the week before Memorial Day, 2017, to remind us all of our precious history of the blood of the lives of our men and women that was freely given so that we can live with the freedom that comes at so great a price. Thank you to all the men and women dedicated to defend that history now and in the future.
Our country seems to be in a crisis. Some are talking about and voting for a Socialist leader. Socialist…can you believe it? Can they not turn on their television and see Venezuela in the news? Can they not see the starvation and chaos? A dear friend of mine escaped Venezuela as a very young teenager by marrying an American man much older than herself. The government controlled everything and life was miserable and terrifying. She became a U.S. citizen. She is one of the most patriotic and inspiring people I’ve ever known. Why do our young people not understand this very simple concept? Because it is no longer taught in our colleges and government classes. We must teach our children the value of freedom and capitalism. We MUST teach them the right to work for their dreams. We must teach them their history. We must teach them the story of our National Anthem.
Tell the story to each generation or we’ll surely regret
Tell the story proudly lest we forget.
Oh, say, can you see by dawn’s early light,
Francis Scott Key praying to see our flag with all his might?
All through the night the bombs burst in the air
British attacking, our men would not despair!
Holding the flag up with bodies of friends
Others standing all night our honor to defend.
Tell the story to each generation or we’ll surely regret.
Tell the story proudly lest we forget.
As dawn broke the next morning our flag proudly waved in the air
While prisoners awaiting to be freed cried, “Is it still there?”
“Yes, It’s still there,” cried Francis Scott Key.
Our men fought valiantly for you and for me,
Paying for freedom they willingly found
The price was their blood flowing freely on the ground.
Tell the story to each generation or we’ll surely regret.
Tell the story proudly, lest we forget.
