I saw Les Miserables at the Performing Arts Center in Anchorage, Alaska back in 1990 or 91. It was done by a Canadian troop and it was magnificent.
Since The Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber) came out last year I am guessing it won't be too long before they make the movie version of Les Miserables. I did see the non-musical one with Anthony Perkins which was not good. However, the first version, a very old drama made sometime in the 30's was excellent. I am almost sure that one starred Frederick March, a fine actor of that era. I saw it in a movie theatre as a rerun when I was a child in 1949 or 50 and never forgot it. Black and White but heart rendering.
If you are an admirer of Kate Beckinsale maybe you saw Serendipity, a romantic comedy movie she did with John Cusack a few years ago.
I was disappointed in her performance in The Aviator playing Ava Gardner although she did do a good job. Maybe I expected her to look and act more like Ava the way that Cate Blanchett looked and acted like Katharine Hepburn.
I would love to see a musical or play on broadway. My daughter has see a few there including Tyne Daly as Rose in Gypsy.
