It’s fascinating to think about how Catholic Lent used to be so challenging and spiritually edifying, more like our Orthodox Great Lent. Back in the day, Catholic Lent was rough….stricter than Ramadan.

I do get concerned about whether or not I would have wanted to be Catholic if I grew up in a different era. I don't think I could have done any of those rules at all. I'm very grateful that more mercy is extended about this now.
