I was recently explaining my love of leggings to my friend - "It's like running around with no pants on!" And as I usually wear skirts with tights it really does feel that way.
I've always thoughts skirts with tights looked horrible. Either have a skirt or have tights on but both? To me, it's like having long socks and shorts on. Looks terrible.

leggings can make a short skirt modest ! But: the leggings should be made of some opaque fabric, such as cotton. And: They should be worn with sneakers instead of heels !
I think they are fine with flats, low sandals, or like winter boots that have the slanted base.

my thoughts on leggings as pants:
D:
My figure fortunately would probably allow for that, and I already wear tight jeans, but NO. just... NO.

Leggings are to be worn under mini-skirts (not micro-mini, which shouldn't exist) or long shirts/dresses. Or to bed. NO EXCEPTIONS. 'jeggings' are an abomination, mostly because I have no clue what to do with them and would feel severely...under-dressed.

I don't like the 80s/90s leggings either, though I just hate every fashion to have come out of the 90's. See above for my thoughts on the matter.

Leggings should never be worn as pants. Ever. EVER. There should be a law.

I have a pair of jeggings. Maybe it's my figure but they don't fit me very tightly. I have them tucked into a pair of riding boots. Then I put a long shirt over it and I think it works.

Although I'm slightly plus sized, my legs are rather thin for my size. Meaning, my waist is a 14-16 (I've got a large rib cage and large breasts), my hips are about a size 10, and my legs are about that as well. So a size 14 jegging doesn't fit me like tights would. But it at least doesn't have six extra inches of fabric at my butt and hips.

NO.

No no no no no no.

Leggings are NOT pants!

I think they're fine to wear under a skirt, long shirt, short dress, or anything that COVERS YOUR BUTT. But otherwise I think it's gross. It's like wearing tights as pants, except they're not see-through...

Tell that to all the cyclists out there. I wear them when I am out cycling, and I have absolutely no qualms about stopping at the market on my way home after a ride with them on.

But leggings and biker's shorts aren't the same. :o Do you wear straight-up leggings to cycle?

If so, I can understand wearing them for athletic purposes. But not just randomly in public in place of pants.

Are we all even thinking of the same article of clothing? Haha ^_^

These are what I am referring to, although mine come all the way down to my ankles. They are a lot thicker than tights, not in the least bit see-through, which is what I think most people are referring to. When I think of leggings, I think of snug pants made out of either a spandex, or a spandex-knit blend material, not something so thin that it could be mistaken for a pair of stockings, or the tights that dancers wear.
