Referring to something as psychologically addictive can be misleading. The issue isn't that the drug is addictive, rather that certain people possess addictive personalities that predispose them to become dependent on certain things. Including gambling.

But as I mentioned before, addictiveness is not a valid reason to prohibit a substance. It is, however a valid reason to regulate it. Just like alcohol, tobacco, and gambling are all regulated.

I think that as a nation we must except our brothers and sisters, and they smoke pot. there is no harm in a person choosing this path, that said person could be very in touch with god. Furthermore who am I to judge when this person has done no harm to anybody,not stollen from any body, did not bear false witness ext.

There was this woman that they always dragged onto the TV, every time there was anything to do with near-death experiences.. this was the official expert. Later the same woman appeared on a pro-cannabis program, she’s died her hair blue and was going on about how great smoking drugs was. Not that I care one way or other about near-death experience.
There was this fellow from Wales, and I read his book when I was out in ‘Nam.. well Cambodia actually.. and the cover said ‘You’ll like him’.. I didn’t .. I hated him.. he was an international cannabis dealer, with the supposed moral high ground that he would not deal heroin.. his whole life was about how to be selfish.. the Americans caught the SoB in the end, but he’s back in Wales now, and appears on TV.
He kept saying ‘harmless beneficial herb’ .. so he was his own expert on the matter.. a personal opinion based on his own consumption, not having investigated any of the evidence for serious harm caused in society by that drug.

Most things are 'not conclusive' - that does not mean we ignore the conclusions such as they are.

That is new age philosophy. Just because we have two drugs of addictions causing untold damage we should encourage wider use? It is a fallacious argument.

All the dangers of Cannabis are related to it's prohibition. The unregulated nature of the black market is where any dangers come in.

There is a black market partly in response to all those people who support the black market and by others who support those supporting the black market. Another fallacious argument.

Recently there has been a good deal of media coverage on the fact that Cannabis is the largest cash crop in California. The legalization of Cannabis would allow for a great deal of taxable, safe product.

Which is the same argument used for the employment of child labour to produce designer label foot ware for the well off at inflated prices.

The arguments you raise have been raised previously and been found wanting for rather obvious reasons.

I favor the legalization of marijuana and other drugs as well. The so-called war on drugs has been a crushing failure. Legalization would help to end the hold that organized crime has on the market for drugs (as well as greatly reducing the attendant violence) and the government corruption that often results from the massive profits to be gained from the drug trade.

Harry J Anslinger was married to a Dupont Daughter....The war against cannabis was prompted bu the Duponts because they has just discovered Nylon....
The hemp rope business was in the way of the conversion to nylon rope(a billion dollar business when you consider the many uses of it......)
The war against cannabis was prompted by this circumstance.....
It is the way of the rich elite to use the populace thusly......
Consider the flouride you consume in water supplies daily....it is a highly toxic industrial waste which clever industrialists have sold to the public as beneficial to teeth, but this has never been proven.....
Meanwhile we are consumiong vast quantities of this toxic substance so that industry doesnt have to go to the expensive trouble of safely disposing of it by other means....there it is.....evil is far more compicated to unravel than one might understand these days.......!
The pot laws are not only unjust, but created to make the duponts richer(as if they needed more money).....
Check out the history and see what happened back in 36 then decide......
Its high time for a revolution of a different sort in this world, the sense has long gone out of governence, and love is the only answer......

It should be used for medical use only, when my mom was in her last final days, she was on morphin, in all the pain that she was in, it comforted her, besides knowing that she was going to be with the Lord. It's plain stupid to legaize this

I have been smoking pot thirty and more years......
It hasnt made me an addict,,,,nor has it rotted my brain,i still score 130 on an iq test...about the same as always.....
The simple facts are that the goverment has manipulated us with fear and lies forever.....
People either spout the same old goverment line or they think for themselves....
The thinkers seldom agree with the Gov. boys....
Pot is the most harmless /least addictive substance one can alter their mind state with....
Kids shouldnt be allowed any such substance to start with.....neither pot nor booze, nor anything else.....
We are speaking about adult choices i hope......
Pot laws are unconstitutionsl in my view....for adults....

Ive smoked allittle more than two years. My grades went up, I stopped watching TV and playing video games 24/7, and I met my wife for the first time smoking a bowl and watching a movie. I also got ALOT closer to God. It should be ok for a ADULT to use weed if they want. If you dont like it dont smoke it, I dont think weed is for everyone but you shouldnt stop and even punish someone for smoking something that is harmless. Its kinda scary some of the things people are saying in this thread about wanting the government to have so much control over our lives. I dont think you guys realize what that could turn into...

Well, not exactly that simple.
You see, the DuPonts had made their fortune growing cotton with slave labor. Cotton requires fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, naturecides, (ok, i made that last one up), so you see how the giant DuPont Chemical became a viable market force...
America having the best government money can buy, passed a "Tax Stamp" act on it because the Medical Comitteee of congress wouldn't go on record saying it was as dangerous as Mr. Hearst was making millions saying it was. His style was branded "Yellow Journalism" (think "Tabloid", only with a racist bent) Negroes under the influence of Demon Marijuana would dare to "step on a white man's shadow" and "hopped-up darky's" were known to laugh when a white man told them to go to the back of the bus. It's all public information. Jack Herer has extensive footnotes.

Anyway, Hearst had an axe to grind that would gratify his racism because Zappata had nationalized 800,000 acres of Mexican timber that Hearst had bought to turn into newspaper pulp. The DuPont laboratory had just perfected a sulphuric acid process to more cheaply turn wood into pulp for processing into paper (think acid rain) & the only competition for their cotton was Hemp.

If I remember correctly, a DuPont girl married a Hearst-friendly bankster and they managed to pass the first bill that by-passed all congressional committes going directly to the Ways & Means Commmittee on which the bankster himself, or the congressman they all bought, sat (It's been a long time since I read the book).

So now, no doubt some of those gov. boys are benefitting from the cash flow that violent criminals are enjoying.
