• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Now you're making no sense whatsoever.

Is she arguing for censorship? Yeah, kinda - at least on a micro level. However, I think it's perfectly reasonable for an organization to reject a speaker on the grounds that their values do not align. If someone wants to invite a porn star to speak at a church and church leadership says no, is that censorship? Do you oppose the censorship enforced by this site regarding positions that cannot be advocated and things that cannot be said? And, again, she holds no power, so her argument is unlikely to result in any action. It certainly didn't stop Pence from speaking.
She could be dean and then put her subjective ideology as policy.

"Leftist"

That sounds a little too strident a label for the 50+ % of American voters who voted against Trump in the last couple elections, and probably this one too.

But maybe this is about some extreme left faction off in the margins?
Anyone is free to argue for censorship. But she was only arguing that he shouldn't be allowed to speak at Dartmouth (a private, not public university) not that he shouldn't be allowed to speak at all. Would people complain if Bernie Sanders was invited to speak at Dallas Seminary? Would that be a call for censorship?
People can complain all they want if Bernie Sanders was invited within bounds of not disrupting or violently opposing his speech. Leftists argue for censorship and often act on their intentions.

Here is an example of chaos held in check while a speaker can still give a speech as Richard Nixon did to the Oxford Union in 1978.

Leftist ideologue politicians who dupe millions by softening their ideology with their voting pitch. I would bet more voters for leftists still liberally view conservatives as “racists”, “fascists” etc.

The issue is whether he is permitted to. He can presently but if full fledged leftists are in control, will that still be allowed?
Gee, I wonder what would happen if "full-fledged" rightists are in control?

But they're a private institution, right? They can do what they want to, right?

You accuse politicians on the left of mischaracterising their positions. And then immediately proceed to mischaracterise the positions of those who vote for them.

How odd.

Ah so this has not actually happened?

Sorry, I thought this was more than someone’s vivid imagination at play.
Far right talking points are doing their best with what they have. And at this point, it seems that's ignoring the realities of their candidate in favor of creative writing exercises.

She could be, but she isn't. And deans don't generally get to act unilaterally on stuff like approving/vetoing speakers.

Folks like you and @RocksInMyHead need to figure out if you agree with Moreton that, "Universities are places for debating ideas..."
Universities are absolutely places for debating ideas - including which ideas are worthy of debate in the first place.

Employee that could also become dean but that would be fine for some I imagine.
I hope your shoes have good grip for that slippery slope you're standing on.

So the private institution invited a speaker and an employee advocates censorship of invited speaker.

Where do you get that? Who censored her?
You seem to be making an argument that she should not be allowed to say such a thing, or that she should face consequences for it.

I think she is a hypocrite and that most liberals and leftists are also. What does my opinion have to with censorship or firing an individual from their job?
