Learning to Sew

Can anyone suggest any good sewing websites that help the beginner get better? I know the basic tips, and have made a few tops, but I don't know how to use a pattern, or maybe how to make things stronger or able to put in my clothes rotation...lol.
I can only seem to find websites that are like, kids crafts, or for sewers that know a few more things than I do.

Nah, it's really small, and I don't think anyone sews enough to show me on their own.
Anyway, I'm just hoping to make more skirts than anything. I'm having a harder and harder time finding them the appropriate length, while still being in cute patterns and fabrics like the ones I've always bought. The places I usually get them is selling them less and less.
I thought about getting help from a woman who my dad knows that is a seamstress, but she is so busy, and with me working two jobs my schedule is weird for me to accomodate to her schedule, ya know what I mean?

I'm trying to learn to sew as well. It's so hard with all the other stuff going on in life. There are 3 sites that I know of off-hand that I've visited.

Simplicity has some really great patterns now that seem to be very basic and give you some great tips -- sewing for dummies patterns. I'm a professional seamstress so I've never actually used them but they seem to be quite good just from my looking at them.

Another good idea is to get yourself a good sewing book. Mine is titled "Singer Sewing Book" and was published in 1972. I know, I know, it's pretty old but it was my mothers and she gave it to me. So far this book has never let me down. It's pretty big -- 500 8/12 x 11 inch pages. It covers everything from how to set up your sewing space, to reading the pattern, to picking the fabric, and then to doing all kind of specialty sewing. I just did a quick search on e-bay and even found this same exact book! You might even try looking at your local library to see which book would be the most useful before buying it.
